I was offered a job in Woodland Hills and was wondering what the neighborhood is like.

I'm in my mid 20s, single with no kids and still want to be in an environment with the same demographic.

Is Woodland Hills a city that fits that description or should I commute to work and live in L.A., which is what I was originally going to do before I was offered this position.
I was looking at places like Hollywood/Los Feliz/Silverlake..

I'm trying to decide on whether to commute or not to commute that is the question.

woodland hills is mostly families. it is one of the few neighborhoods left in the city that still has good schools. traffic in and out of the area can be nearly as bad as downtown or the westside. if the job is a good paying one, you may consider living in sherman oaks or studio city and commuting, but it will still a tough commute. right now, jobs are difficult to find, so just because you got one offer doesn't mean others are going to come pouring in. good luck!

Thanks for the info, but I wasn't asking about job advise. Im asking about Woodland Hills and what the neighborhood is like. Im not looking to move into a family based community, so thanks for that part of your info.

Don't commute, that is the answer.

Next question?

Commuting is becoming worse and worse on the 101 Freeway (which runs through Woodland Hills). If you want a younger demographic, then you will have to move further East into neighborhoods such as Encino or Tarzana. You don't want to go too much further East such as Sherman Oaks/Studio City or else you will run into that dreaded traffic.

My office is in Woodland Hills and I live in Valley Village (North of Studio City). The commute is not fun at all and can drive you to madness at times. Luckily, my job offers me the ability to work from home, so it keeps me sane. I'm not sure if you will have the same luxury.

Hope this helps.

If I were you I would look into living in Woodland Hills. There are many upscale apartment complexes in the area including Warner Center that fit the description you mention.

Yes, don't commute is the right answer in LA whenever possible. Did you end up settle farther east like Sherman Oaks? I would not suggest to live as far as Studio City unless you're the bar hopping kinda person. As VLWH said, there are nice places in WH, and there ARE young people in the west Valley because Warner Ctr is a job center. If you're commuting now by car, I suggest taking Metro Rapid 750 to the Metro Orange Line instead. Hope that helps. Any other question, just write back or you can check my website SmartCommute.Net for the 101 corridor.

Here's my experience: My wife before I met her, commuted from Long Beach to Woodland Hills every day. She was miserable. She eventually moved to Woodland Hills. She was miserable now because her apartment was roach infested. But, she was close to many things. Just didn't jive with the valley. When we moved in together, we lived in Simi Valley and she could commute on the 118 to Topanga Cyn and it wasn't bad. After a year, we moved to Camarillo and it was about 45 min commute down the 101 and while it wasn't great, we loved where we lived and it was worth it.

I would honestly say that Silverlake, Echo Park, etc... would be up your alley. I worked in Westlake Village with some people that lived out there and also Santa Monica and made the commute. It can get hairy, but like my wife and myself, they loved where they lived and could over look the hairy commute. It's your call, but I think if you're young, single, into music or art and night life, Silverlake etc... is your area.

Ask yourself this:

Which is better...an hour commute to work each day, or a 45 minute commute to Hollywood on weekends?

And thats what you should do. Live and work in Woodland Hills. Drive into LA on weekends.
