Cold wind today, everythig is frozen up. Here in Island Falls, at Vacationland Resort, there are tons of snowsledders. I bet the trails are wicked fast now.

Portland Maine max temp today was 17°. Last time with a day this cold in March was 1984.

Boston's max temp was 21° today. Normal is 41°.

Last time they had a day this cold IN MARCH was 1967.

And imagine if there was a snowpack. Impressive air mass for March.

Here, in Aurora, ME, 6℉/-14.4℃, Dew Point -8℉/-22.2℃, Winds WNW, 16mph/25.750kph. Have no idea how fast the gusts are but we've been having them pretty strong since yesterday...

Another beautiful, sunny day, but bitterly cold with the windchill factor (I've only gone outside to feed the birds and quickly return)....Watching the Ravens (now there are four and it appears there is a mated couple), play in flight, they frequently come to the suet feeders for a meal and are also sitting underneath the bird seed feeders, awaiting a morsel to fall. A flock of Blackbirds arrived on Friday (with a token Grackle). All the birds are puffy, but the mature Blackbirds' red and yellow eclipses on their wings are puffed even more as they get close to the feeders and signal to the immature males to move aside.

I saw a small flock of snow buntings yesterday and a pair of golden eagles in Stockton Springs. They were not immature bald eagles. Goldens are half again as large as an adult bald eagle. This was my second sighting ever of a golden. My prior one was over near Screw Auger Falls north of Rumford about 20 years ago. That was a pair also. Snow buntings this late means it must be cold in Canada.

Off topic, but do snow buntings ever frequent feeders? Any tips to attract them?

It's been wicked cold this weekend, but the County is still chock full of Can Am dogsled racers and fans, and snowsledders. Tough people (and dogs)!

Based on the forecast, next weekend will probably be the last hurrah for snow lovers. The Caribou/Portage area and St. John Valley will be packed. (Last March was like none I have ever seen; the Valley was the only place in Maine for good sledding, and there were thousands of people from down south on the trails.....too many!)

I have never seen a snow bunting at a feeder. I don't know what they eat. I see them in roads picking sand for their crops.
