The EZPass "auto-replenish" has been very inconsistent with me recently. When I signed up many years ago, if you had auto-replenish turned on, it would charge my checking account when the balance in my EZPass account was under $10, and would usually charge an amount to bring the EZPass account balance back to $20.

Now, it charges almost every time I take a long road trip, and it charges $40 from my bank account because apparently that is the "minimum" amount for auto-replenish, even if there's $30 in the account already! Earlier this year, I turned off auto-replenish because there was quite a bit of funds in the account. But last week, there was about $18 in the account and I turned auto-replenish back on because I was making a trip out to NY state. I turned on auto-replenish on the 10th of September, and my bank account was charged $40. Over the weekend, about $23 in tolls along the Mass. Pike and NY Thruway were charged to my transponder. But today, ANOTHER $40 was drafted from my bank account.

So WHY was another $40 added to the EZPass account if $40 was added just a week ago and I only paid $23 in tolls? What does EZPass consider to be a "low balance"? I've attached a screenshot as a visual aide.

you might want to consider switch to a credit card.

I checked my EZ-pass account (NY account), and found everything was fine. I got $25 replenish after tolls in MA
triggered by the trip through Boston airport recently. Everything was supposed to be that way, nothing unexpected.

The replenishment amount can vary based on your usage patterns.

Under $10 triggers auto replenish. Last I checked was $20.

This - my credit card gets charged for $30 whenever I drop below $30. When doing NY, NJ trips, I'll get billed a couple of times in a week.

Doesn't matter if it's attached to a CC at all. My ez pass used to refill when it went below $10. I took a trip to DC last Thanksgiving and used $21 dollars for tolls. For some reason EZ Pass replenished once I went below $20 and then again 3 days later. So I had roughly $108 dollars in the account before I started my drive home.
The drive home is a little cheaper, I think only $16 dollars. But EZ Pass drew another $40 the day after I got home. So that's $120 dollars off my CC in just a weeks time. I shut off auto replenishment and just do it manually now.

It seems like there's no consistency with the Massachusetts EZPass system. One poster mentioned being charged $30, another $40 just like me, and getting hit with the auto-replenish when it's not necessary. It made a lot more sense to withdraw when the balance went below $10.

I've turned off auto-replenish since there's at least $70 in my account.

Can't you adjust it online? Pretty sure I set mine to $10.

I've gone over bridges with tolls that are more than $10. That's why they adjust the replenishment based on usage patterns.

Then make it $15? I don't see the big deal over a few bucks.
