You can set it but there's a limit based on past usage.

EZP tries to set up a replenishment amount that works based on previous usage. As I noted before, when I drop below $30 I get hit for another $30. I spend anywhere between $30-$50 a month on tolls throughout the Northeast.

Sounds like $30 is a good time to replenish then. I still don't see the big deal?

Same here. I currently have $60.00 in my little used account and the replenishment was set at $20.00. Just now turned off the Auto feature.

I would rather have the thing replenish more than I need, than end up at a toll booth with no money on it and get charged penalties or citations for a violation. This becomes even more important when driving intrastate and dealing with the laws of other states.

As long as you have auto replenishment, the account can go into the negative without penalty. I've had it happen a couple of times with my work trips. In the course of 36 hours, I traveled in Maine, New Hampshire, Mass, and New York. Since the out of state tolls don't hit the account instantly, my account was negative for couple of days.

Yep, and my new car has a "metallic windshield" which was preventing some (not 3, 93, or 95 in NH, for some reason) toll gantries from reading. I went two months without noticing something was wrong until I got a letter from EZpass saying "there might be an issue with your transponder." When I logged into EZPass, I saw that they had managed to bill by my plate anyway. Not surcharges, no fees. My transponder was old, the new one works fine with my windshield (still mounted in the same spot).

About 10 years ago, I had a faulty transponder and drove from Maine - MA South Coast - Springfield - South Coast - Maine over a weekend. I received 7 or 8 tickets in the mail and thankfully was able to appeal with, I believe, a $1 surcharge per ticket. They've improved the system.
