This particular Cheers was a crappy tourist bar inside a tourist trap. There are way better places to eat/drink that you could hit with a sand wedge from there. Luckily the OG bull and finch is still around.

Is it??? Last time I went by, looked like something else was there now.

And I read today on Eater that Chicago closed all of its Prets, save one.

I liked that chain. Silly me...I originally thought it was unique to Boston! Maybe they'll re-open some in a year or two if things can improve?

I didn't realize actual Bostonians cared one whit about the Cheers in Faneuil Hall. It wasn't the original. (And even the original is more touristy than anything.)

The Faneuil Hall outpost didn't open until after my first stint in Boston. I feel no loss at its closure. Actually, I'm kind of amazed that anyone still finds Cheers in any incarnation significant. Do the folks under 30 even know what it is?

I would wager that anyone mourning the closure is:
  • 50 or older
  • Really more upset about a former household disappearing from the public conscious than they are about the loss of the bar/restaurant itself. I seriously doubt there were many local regulars at the Faneuil Hall Cheers!

I'm 51, and I might be a little bit sad if the original one closed. But I don't get why someone my age would care if the Faneuil Hall location closed, when, in my mind, it hasn't even been there that long.

There is only one "Cheers" and it is on Beacon Street. The Faneuil Hall one was just a tourist cash-grab.

As someone under 30- no most people under 30 don’t know what Cheers is. Like I know it existed because I’m from Boston and into history... but I don’t know what Cheers was about or who was in it.

I didn’t know there was another Cheers other than the one at Faneuil Hall..

Oh - I love Pret's sandwiches and even their pastries were good...I hope the chain survives and comes back.
