I see some of the VP/C level salaries and no one should be making that much money...but many are.

and don't say, oh well cops knew what they signed up for. I know they knew what they signed up for - a job that offers a base salary, plus OT if they want it and a nice pension. Get over it.
My friend has a PhD in computer science and works for Microsoft in Cambridge. His base salary is $130k.
With bonus and stock options, his annual income is still no more than $180k.

Also, the vast majority of software engineers work for private companies and do not depend on tax dollars.

You think tax dollars aren't going to Microsoft? LOL

But it's not a government job and he makes profits for the company.
After he retires, there will be no pension but social security and 401k.

I'm guessing he still has time to make a lot more?

I used to work at a tech company in Cambridge and the engineers weren't paid anything astronmical, it was mainly the c level people and where i was it was a non profit so it seemed ridiculous. One guy who was a VP was salaried at 250k and that didn't even include a bonus. He was actually kind of slow and didn't seem to be doing much and was eventually fired after about a year.

And your point is? Microsoft makes a profit largely because they have a monopoly, and not to mention billions in GOVERNMENT funding.

If he's getting that raw a deal maybe he should apply to become a police officer if it's such gravy, but he's not and neither are most of these "slaves" working for tech companies.

But getting OT here.

Many of these tech people also get free meals catered to them by their employer. Just sayin'. Cops don't get that.

And again, no one is saying it's ok for anyone to steal OT but the fact is that people get angry about how much cops are paid regardless of where there is stealing OT or not. For some reason it just angers people to see in the paper that a sergeant who has been on the force for 20 years doing 60 hours a week made 200k. And that's before taxes that you are seeing posted!

My point is software engineers do not make as much as you claim, on average. And it is in private sector so the pay is regulated by the market.

Most IT companies don't do that.

I've worked at two companies now (one non profit) that did that. It actually horrified me a bit to think about how much they were spending on food in addition to people's salaries and bonuses but they did it (I felt less guilty when saw how the salaries/bonuses of the C level people). Apparently it's a way to stay competitive to get good people...
