And not to mention as well, this is also greatly responsible for the overinflated cost of everything. You think apartments in New Bedford would still go for $1800/month if all the Section 8 vouchers were yanked tomorrow? HEEEEE#$$ NO
For sure. We listed our home for rent once and 90% of the applicants had section 8. Some didn't even work. Many single mothers, some with 4-5+ kids even with babies. It was eye opening. And here we were busting our backs working overtime to pay off student loans at 6.8% interest while paying tons of taxes. We felt like suckers.

Yep they all have the latest iPhone and an expensive vehicle. They get free healthcare, free food, and cheap rent. What a privilege to be in this state/country. Makes you wonder how there are so many homeless with all these freebies.

Some of y'all have never been poor.

These stories make for great creative writing, but don't reflect reality.

Another never ending gift from that horrible Reagan, the "welfare queen" trope.

Are yall really mad people can eat. We live in America in 2022.... feeding oneself shouldn't be a concern even if you're penniless.

Food, Water, Internet, and Heat are all necessities and very easy to provide. Subsidized Childcare is good and there need be more of it. And I think we should have much more public housing done in the logical townhome fashion (not highrise fashion) and less Section 8. But Housing is a basic necessity that's shouldn't be difficult to obtain at all.

It's only TANF (Cash Welfare) that I think people could take legitimate gripes with. But it's temporary by definition...

Were not talking about material things besides like the free cell phones. You can have a grievance about that too.

People in 50k SUV living on assistance are almost universally drug dealers and their SO's and breaking many laws.

It absolutely is reality. Of what facts presented here, are you disputing?

A friend of mine was renting her upstairs apartment and had Section 8 people apply. The rent with Section 8 was more than a reasonable rent for a 2-bedroom for a working person. She decided to get a "regular" person and not Section 8.
