Those folks should just try harder to get at job at one of the many biopharma or tech places in the area.

"Bradley added most of them have jobs, but can’t afford rent and want to stay in their communities."

Sad that the woman with 12 grandchildren wasn't offered a place to stay by any of her kids.

Have some sympathy for them.

Maybe she was and was kicked out? Anyway, it seems strange that she would move from Florida to Massachusetts to live in a tent.

I was being sarcastic with the pharma comment. People here always say real estate has gone up so much thanks to Pharma companies in the area but those companies are mainly only hiring people with very specialized skills and advanced degrees.

I do feel bad for them and I'm sure there's more to their stories. If you're living in a tent you might need to give up the dream of staying in your community as well.

Yes probably more to the story. If it were me I'd move back to FL to live in a tent. However MA is much more liberal than FL and perhaps she came back for reasons related to that.

Are outdoor kitchens a thing in MA? I've only seen them in new construction southern CA homes.

With how hard it is to evict people in MA, I wouldn't be surprised if LL are refusing to rent to these people. Even with a steady job and could technically afford it. MA's min wage now is $15.

A quick glance at my town's social media forum shows that many families are looking to either rent or buy but the inventory right now is slim to none. Some of them already rent in town and want to keep their kids in the school system but obviously their rent must've skyrocketed. I can count a handful of houses around me that were up for sale at the end of last year. Now none of them are because the owners decided to pull them back until the market resettles.
