Don't you follow Dave Ramsey's advice? Don't be average. Debt is dumb, cash is king and the paid off home mortgage takes the place of the BMW as the status symbol of choice. lol

Some is smart investment practices
Some is a mix of all the above (no so much the illegal stuff hopefully)

It's as you would expect...a mix.
Funny story . . . when my brother bought his first house he bought it from a divorcee. When he moved in the neighbors all said "if you ever do any renovations on the house be sure to be there for the demo! You'll probably find some cash in the walls." When he asked why he was told the reason the woman was divorced was . . .

Husband was off on a business trip one day and wife noticed some moisture stains on a tile of the drop ceiling in the basement. She pushed the tile aside to see what was leaking and a bunch of rolls of cash and several burner phones fell out. Apparently, her husband was running a prostitution ring! Crazy! She had no idea.

Yeah. This thread has gone WAY off the tracks. I also feel like when I first joined this forum many years ago that there was less judgement.

I put down as little as possible (20%) to avoid PMI for my house. I'm not going to make any early payments, will ride it out for all 30 years unless rates somehow go below 3% again.

Yeah. 10 years ago you could rightly flog a $50k car. Now it's just average.
