Nothing at all in those images suggests that the former occupant was mentally ill. Just old with mobility issues.
If they can't afford help, there are free resources for seniors and I'm sure if they called the Saugus senior center there would be a kind soul who would gladly go to their house to lend a helping hand for an hour or two. The fact that there is dirt/mold on the floor and piles of sh*t in almost every corner tells me that they don't have the right mindset to comprehend that this isn't good for their mobility or for their health.

This type of situation is generally going to be way more complicated than you're making it out to be.

Some people have too much pride to ask for help.

Or maybe the person who was living there was concerned the house might get condemned, and they'd have no place to live, if they asked for assistance and ended up getting the wrong person.

A lot of thought is going into this. I wouldn't list a house looking like that....maybe it's someone doing an experiment to see if the house still goes for over asking even when a complete mess.

The description says "The property may need to be leveled to the ground."

If that's the case, why bother spending the money to clean it out and clean it up? Also possible that even if they wanted to, they can't afford to.

The owner probably died and the family left with it said "F this".

Are you a psychologist? Or a doctor at least? If not then you shouldn't be diagnosing people with mental illness.

You don't need to be a psych to realize that someone's missing a few marbles.

Not sure if you've ever watched hoarders but some of the houses on that show looked much worse than the one we're talking about here. On that show it did seem like most of the people had some type of traumatic issue happen in the past or a mental/physical disability. Some people might just be slobs too.

A true hoarder house typically just has very narrow paths throughout the house. This house is nothing like that. It's just messy and neglected.
