You wont have a problem finding people who speak english in Gainesville Fl. Non english speaking people will not find work here if you have to deal with the public. I work with recent legal immigrants friom Japan, Iran, Turkey, and Equador. All speak english very well. They have never expected me or their other coworkers to learn their mother tongue language. All the Hispanic employees speak english on the job.

And the city of Miami considers English, Spanish, AND Haitian Creole to be official languages. Which do we honor? Point being, the idea of a unified language is nice and (believe it or not) still valid, but you are free to speak what you want in America.

Where I work, people often start rattling off in Spanish, sort of half Spanish/English conversations. I used to be annoyed, but now, I have actually learned enough Spanish to know what is going on. But I have noticed, that there is a preference for employees who are bi-lingual.
