This week heard that a fellow WW11 Vet, holder of 4 Bronze stars, (recent neighbor of mine) had a stroke within the last month and had passed away. Robert said that he did what he had to do when the situation arose and was not a bolster by any means. He was in his mid 90's and I was just a bit behind him. I will miss him and our talking of past experiences along with an occasional laugh.

Rest in peace Robert as I "Shed my Tear" for you.

I'd post the "America, F--- Yeah!" video in honor, but I might get banned from C-D...

Same with "American Bad Ass." A slightly, relatively more innocuous name, but dirty lyrics. But nothing screams patriotism like that.

'Murica!

And seriously, I thank current, veteran and deceased military personnel for their ever-important military services and contributions!

France awards its highest honor to a World War II veteran.
Marie-Helene Glon, Honorary Consul of the Republic of France in Utah and Gov. Gary Herbert
stand with World War II veteran Dean C. Larson (90) after he was awarded with the Legion of Honor
in the Gold Room at the Utah Capitol Thursday, July 31, 2014. He was awarded the honor by the
French government for the merit and bravery he exhibited while fighting during World War II.

He flew aboard a B1-17 bomber for the Army Air Corps, and all the missions launched from and
returned to England. Larson was a ball turret gunner.
Larson flew 33 missions. On his 15th mission, to Bordeaux, France, flak damaged his turret and
wounded him.
Larson received a discharge in October of 1945. He received the purple heart for being wounded
as well as two bronze stars and a list of other commendations.
"You rescued people you did not know," Glon told Larson, "but you can be sure they have not
forgotten you."
Glon pinned the medal on Larson’s lapel and kissed his cheeks as his family and dignitaries applauded.

France recognizes a small number of American veterans with the award every year.
