Always Faithful --- Marines Help Terminally Ill Staff Sergeant Complete Half Marathon -
Terminally ill
active-duty Marine, Staff Sgt. Jack Blevins, completed the Marine Corps Historic Half in a 13.1 mile trek through the
city of Fredericksburg, Virginia on May 18, 2014. W ith the help of his fellow Marines and Sailor, Staff Sgt. Blevins was
able to mark off an item on his bucket list. Former Marine Sgt. Chris Dockter, Gunnery Sgt. Michael Gillitzer, and Navy
Corpsman Hospitalman 2nd Class Ruben Munoz pushed Staff Sgt. Blevins through the race, finishing in an impressive 2
hours and 26 minutes. In addition to the four men serving in combat together, Gunnery Sgt. Gillitzer and Staff Sgt.
Blevins now work together again in a different capacity. Gunnery Sgt. Gillitzer is a District Injured Support Coordinator
(DISC) with the Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment. Through his duties as a DISC, Gunnery Sgt. Gillitzer provides
a multitude of services to Marines and Veterans, including face-to-face visits, helping Marines register with the VA, and
providing information on various community resources. The Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment, established in
2007, provides and enables assistance to combat and non-combat wounded, ill, and injured Marines, and Sailors
attached to or in direct support of Marine units and their family members in order to assist them as they return to duty
or transition to civilian life.

Theodore "Dutch" Van Kirk navigated the B-29 Superfortress named "Enola Gay". I got a tour of the "Enola Gay" about 20+ years ago as it was being restored at the National Air and Space Museum, Silver Hill facility.

NC Guard Soldier Carries The Fallen - A Carry The Fallen fundraising team walks through downtown Raleigh, N.C.,
on May 31, 2013, while wearing weighted rucksacks, to raise money for Active Heroes and awareness of the high rate
of veteran suicides. The group, led by North Carolina National Guard Soldier Staff Sgt. Elle Milo with Headquarters and
Headquarters Detachment, Joint Force Headquarters was made up of active duty service members, National
Guardsmen, veterans and civilians, who spent 12 hours rucking and covered 23.62 miles to support Active Heroes, a
non-profit organization that supports veterans and their families.

Veterans And Community Combine Forces With NBA Cares To Tackle New Orleans Community Outreach
Initiative During NBA All-Star Weekend -
Volunteers at the NBA Cares and Rebuilding Together New Orleans joint
outreach initiative pose in front of a renovated house Feb. 14, 2014. NBA Cares, a community outreach initiative that
focuses on community development, education and health, hosted a All-Star Day of Service that was staffed by
volunteers from local areas, visitors from across the country and service members from all five branches of the U.S.
military, as well as current and former NBA athletes. Volunteers renovated houses for veterans and low-income families
