The very people who voted to abolish the police for the citizens of Minneapolis are now getting private security for themselves at a cost to taxpayers of $4,500 a day. This is how socialism works, folks. Only those in charge benefit, and everyone else pays.

In California when the big fires were happening the Board of Supervisors (County) and City Council as well as other politicians that lived in the area of fires had local police/sheriff as well as State Police (CHP) camped out at their houses to retrieve items as instructed, or to steer firemen to those houses as the flames approached. Later on, they said it was all about continuity of local/state government after the fires. Sorta makes some sense, but rubbed people the wrong way when news came out.

I imagine private security would be the less costly option, compared to how much it would cost to have sworn police doing the same thing. I don;t know enough about the local situation in Minneapolis to comment on weather it appropriate or not.

It's not a matter of cost. It's a matter of deeming their lives worthy of professional security while depriving the city's residents of the same and offering up community support instead!

You miss the point. It's not just about the cost to the taxpayers. It's about them being afforded professional armed security while taking the same away from the city residents. Why did they not hire social workers and mental health professionals to protect them, which is all they feel is necessary to protect the residents?

The cost should come out of the individuals pockets, not the cities.

As far as I'm concerned, they've abdicated their responsibility to the citizens and taxpayers of Minneapolis.

They should be ashamed of themselves.

I didn’t “miss the point.” I made that point in another thread in this forum before you started this one. I was responding to several questions regarding the cost effectiveness of the move. I post here often so there is no reason to assume one post will reflect all my thoughts on a topic. Maybe you should read through some of the other threads here before posting.

Hey C-D people, raise your hand if you knew you were supposed to cross-reference posts between different threads for individual posters to get a complete picture of their thoughts on a particular topic before you reply to one of their comments.
