Im gonna argue the contrary and say that an apartment complex with underground parking in Phillips will probably be safer than on/off street parking in Whittier or Stevens would be. To be honest, I wouldnt advise walking thru any of the above neighborhoods on any street that isnt well lit after dark.

I have friends in Whittier, Stevens and Phillips...and none of them have I ever felt threatened. I have probably had the most run-ins in Stevens, but its always just been weirdos asking for smokes and the like.

Marshall and Lowry area? If thats the spot, its fine there. I have a friend who lives around Psycho Suzis.

Gabbys gets pretty awful, so as long as you arent close to there you're fine.

Marshall as in Saint Paul's answer to Lake Street, not Northeast.

Yes, it's right below the Town and Country Club.

Thanks Kazoo! It's good to know that I can get a good night run in from time to time. I usually try to go in the morning but often I can't get around to it until 10pm or later. That urban exploration seems like something that's right up my alley too! Thanks for the link!

Another question: about how long would it take to get from my place to MOA? I may have a job lined up there but if the commute's too hard I may reconsider. I'd likely just go down Cleveland Avenue and then hop on Highway 5.

Does it ever get congested? Is traffic down there ever bad? I've driven that way a few times before, but not enough to get a feel for traffic. The only places I've been in a jam is on 94 or 35W. Does 5 and 494 get backed up much??? I wouldn't really think so considering they're so wide and far away from downtown. Sorry if my questions are annoying and detailed!

494 gets very congested between 77 and Penn Ave during rush hour. The good news is there is a park and ride at the Midtown/Lake St light rail station. Just drive across the river and go on E. Lake to Hiawatha, park, and hop on the train and you'll be at the MOA in 20-25 minutes.

Thanks Slig! I'll have to consider that. Thank you Camden, for the warm welcome. There sure are a lot of SD transplants in the cities!

MOA via Cleveland and Hwy 5 shouldn't be a problem at all, even at rush hour. You'd only be on 494 for one exit before you'd get off. Quckest, most direct route would be Cleveland/St Paul Ave/Edgecumbe/Hwy 5/ 494 to 28th Ave, exit. Personally, I'd take the LRT to the Mall, (would be real easy from your place to catch a bus on Marshall, ride 5 minutes to the Midtown LRT station on Lake St and hop the train) but if you really want to drive, that's the way to go.
