I took these pictures from my roof two years ago... half a mile away, a little fire but headed toward a bunch of houses so they got right on it. The wind was blowing so hard (about 35mph) the helicopter was having a tough time getting close to the fire -- quite a piloting job just to stay out of the overhead wires. They had two units up and were scooping water from the sewage treatment plant about 10 miles away. The smoke is black because the fire had got into a stand of greasebrush.

The power poles are only half as far apart as usual for extra strength -- about 10 years ago the wind came along and laid 'em all out flat!

Still in the frozen north. I'll be here most of the winter now. I hope to get back down in December.

Hello neighbors, another gusty day on the prairie.
Swathing sparks are starting plenty of little fires, hope none get out of hand. I see the other parts of the state are in there own particular fire issues.
Once more to the grill for dinner

I thought about starting a new thread but since we are few it might can just be added into this one.
I have been really thinking about life as I head into the big 50
I may drop in a "something I saw today makes me appreciate Montana" here now and then. Comments? I do not want to appear gushy and we can and do occasionally vent on the porch so continue on..

Today I stopped by what is a store here and in the pick up next to me was a boy about 8 or 9. He was in charge of a big dog of various breeds, his pop had most likely told him to keep the dog there. Now this dog outweighed the by by 20 lbs or so but that dang dog was obeying him and the boy had the proud shoulders to prove it. Anywhere else the dog would have been tied to the bed and the kid strapped down in a booster seat.
This is what I appreciate Montana.

Am I correct in assuming both the kid and the doge were inside the cab and not back in the bed of the truck? I hate seeing dogs in the back of a pickup. It is so dangerous for the dog!!!

This morning I'm having a delicious piece of roast pork for breakfast, and thinkin' about our friend in Washington (I think it was) and his pigs who was thinkin' of moving to Glendive. Here's a salute to the farmers who made my morning so enjoyable!

I caught a scorpion in the kennel this morning! Just a baby, a bit over an inch long, but the real thing, not a "wind scorpion". Ain't supposed to be any real scorpions this far west!! Appears to be an Arizona Bark Scorpion. EEEEP!

Yea, they were waiting on the tailgate, but here you see the dogs on the flatbeds of trucks going 75 down the highway! Tough people, tough dogs! It was just nice to see a kid without a cell in one hand and a gameboy in the other, just a kid and his dog

oh yes, it is ribs in the oven since the wind is blowing about 25mph and gusting to 40! Makes me a little nervous with flame outside.
Glad to see that Station fire is calming down.

Gosh, I used to see them in Texas along time ago, you would see the females with babies on their backs. Hope your fellows didn't mind.
