That happened to me last Sunday, when the winds started to pick up. It was a dried up, brown oak leaf, and it hit my cheek sideways. It felt like a razor!

Those oaks do have a pointy end...an are thick. I guess better than a big ole pine cone hitting you.

This one didn't hurt. It just got my attention. My reflexes made me close my eyes so didn't get a good look at the culprit. A gust of wind had kicked up and a bunch of leaves were falling at the time.

Over the weekend, we had to travel to a place about 40 miles away. We saw 8 deer by the side of the road, which had been hit by cars. Wow

Or the whole tree, given where I live and the state of things around here right now. So many trees down, great, big, majestic trees that had to have been old.

Probably the drought has forced many deer to forage for what pre-winter food they can find. If there's not enough in the woods they live in they often migrate to find more to eat. That means crossing roads.

I hate when that happens. Old trees are irreplaceable. Of course, the humans who live near them are most important.
