I agree. It will be a long time before that is realized, however. Kind of like the radical notion, earlier, that women should vote.

Default I agree...

I will never be satisfied with "their" healthcare system because I do not believe in or use Western medicine. I use Traditional Chinese Medicine (acupuncture and Chinese herbs), so I have to pay for it myself. I'm hoping that one day they will squash the insurance companies and the pill makers and allow people like me to make our own choices!

It is all about politics right now and the American people are still being fooled.

Here is a link I hope everyone will pass on though. I say that because for people who use "their" healthcare system, there are immediate benefits that will be implemented in 2010. These are seemingly good things for people, but when the political parties + the pundits (TV is a joke, and they call that news! Ha!) don't really know what they're talking about so they continue to make up stuff and tell lies.

This implementation timeline is found at the Kaiser Foundation. It's not about Kaiser's role or what Kaiser is going to do, but it covers the implementation of the various parts of the legislation.

Check it out. Pass it on and don't allow people to keep believing lies and more lies!

Health Reform Implementation Timeline - Kaiser Family Foundation

It is definitely not enough, but it's a start and Americans will benefit from it.

Thanks!
Vicki

I agree that this will NOT be good for America. This is just another major intrusion on our freedoms.

Maybe someone enjoys the freedom to "go broke," or better yet, watch someone else struggle ??? That's a great freedom!

schadenfreude

I don't think it's an enjoyment of others' misfortunes so much as pure ignorance.
I'm fine, so therefore everyone must be fine.

At least I hope it's ignorance. Otherwise it's selfish cruelty and I just really don't want to believe that about my fellow Americans.

Because only in america can people be fired for being sick, lose their employer's health insurance and never be accepted again for pre-existing health conditions.

Only in America!

Fred, since you’ve completely mischaracterized the argument I’ve got to conclude that the ignorance is on your side.

It’s not “I’m fine, so therefore everyone must be fine”. It’s, I’m fine as are 80% to 85% of us. So leave us alone and let’s do what we have to do to help the other 15% to 20% who are not fine. Don’t suck all of us into this government run system and ruin it for all. We can address the problems in the system without a complete government takeover for a miniscule dollar amount as compared to a multi-trillion dollar government dictated system that our children and grandchildren are never going to be able to pay for. To me that’s really the selfish cruelty.

Actually Michael J.. We cannot fix the problem without the government help. I work in this industry, and have found that the problem is getting worse for people at an increasing rate.

At one time, you would have to truly be 'lazy' and 'stupid' to not have enough to pay off your healthcare, but it is different now.

Now, people all the way up to high-middle class are losing health insurance, lose their jobs, insurance and all their belongings when they get really sick, and to never return to normalacy.

The problem is so bad right now, that if your job finds out you are sick, then can fire you! You will have to pay a gross amount for COBRA which most cannot afford 'without' a job, and you cannot get insurance with a pre-existing health condition. Oh, and companies will not hire you when you are sick.

Health based companies are allowed to work as a group to 'price gouge'. while in almost all other industries this is considered a very strong case of anti-trust. Pharmaceutical companies PAY each other to set prices high so the brand manufacturer can still continue to raise prices even with competition.

A hospital stay for a week, which is not that uncommon usually costs between a low-end house to a middle class housing structure. Most of the time, when you are in the hospital you hear a lot of nurses talking about each other behind their back and not really doing a whole lot of work.

It use to be only the unfortunate (which many consider losers who don't have a right for health-care), but it is now middle class people that quickly become unfortunate and then labeled 'losers' that don't deserve the care because the didn't 'earn it'..

Seriously people, I know that people are afraid about our government 'taking over' the health care industry. It BREAKS my heart to see so many people give all their strength to better our society and then get sick and treated like a 'burden' to society.

Please, can we stop being like this and just accept the fact that so many people 'deserve' help and intervention is the only way it can happen?

Please don't make me have to see any more people lose it all after working so hard to better society, and then be told they haven't EARNED the right to be treated? And even if they are treated, to have nothing but a bill that costs about as much as a mansion.

We have proven that we will not help the unfortunate like we should. All we do is walk around with sandwiches and sometimes a couple of t-shirts and then say that they want to live that way.

PS: Sorry for my rant, but I am tired of having to hear desperate people crying to me for help, and I cannot help them..
