Concord COL is very high. I would look in outlying towns like loudon or Epsom. Housing and tax rates are somewhat lower there. The tax rate in Concord has done nothing but continually increase for several years.
Is that the same issue for all of NH? Seems that the main complaints and negatives people tell us about NH is the constant rise of property taxes. We have considered Epsom. Its funny though, some bash Epsom on city data while some say its a great place-lol. Go figure

Epsom is nice overall. South side of town along the 28 corridor by the river is a bit more rundown looking, but north of 4 east of the traffic circle is quite nice. Also, it is only a 15 minute drive to Concord from all parts of Epsom and Loudon. The southern part of Loudon is within minutes of the Steeplegate Mall and other shopping on Concord Heights.
Thank you! What Concord zip codes are considered nice neighborhhods? Not so much right in the heart of the city area, further out, yet still Concord.
That's a funny one. One zip code for Concord and one zip code for Pennacook (a neighborhood at north part of Concord). Pennacook had it's own mills at one time. There are other zip codes. The PO Boxes may have a zip code. The state government offices may have their own zip code. So seeking neighborhoods by zip code does not work in Concord.
Concord has some very nice neighborhoods scattered about. The city core is mostly older but nice homes. If you want curbstones and sidewalks you need to be in the older sections for the most part. Rural area in general do not have sidewalks. Concord may have more sidewalks as it is the state capital.
Concord has a nice bus terminal near Route 93. Busses going north and south to Manchester and Boston. The state of New Hampshire built the bus terminal in Concord.
Manchester population wise is much greater at over 100,000 while Concord is less than half of that.
All will advise you to look at property taxes. NH relies heavily on property taxes to pay for town/city and schools. Many will advise you to seek neighhboring towns where property taxes are lower.
In any city you may have municipal water and sewer. More rural areas each home will have it's own well and septic sytem. There are advantages and disadvantages to one or the other.

I'll have to bet that the ones who don't like the Epsom area have never really lived there or at least took a good look around.They probablly should have a section on here called "country"-data

Its tough to get more opinions on the smaller towns like Loudon, Epsom & Chester.
Does anybody know if the utility costs are about the same between Concord & Manchester? Same oil, cable co and so on?

Loudon has the NH Motor Speedway off 106. Basically places like Loudon, Epsom, and Chester have mostly houses in rural areas on larger wooded lots with their own private wells and septics. Properties greater than 10 acres and qualify for a current use tax deduction. Many people in those towns are self employed, operate a small business, or work several jobs to pay the bills. Property taxes, while lower than Concord, are certainly not low... Alton has the lowest tax rate in the area, northeast of Loudon. It is about 35 minutes removed from Concord via highway 28.
Manchester is a much larger city and more urban than concord over all.
Concord is a much smaller city (about 60,000 less) but none the less has a nice downtown, however it is not as exicting as Manchester's or Portsmounth's.
Although, Manchester has much higher population than Concord. Concord is 2x larger than Manchester in land size.
