Err on the side of caution! This is a disasterous storm headed your way. Besides the rain and wind: it is the STORM SURGE/FLOODING that does the most damage.
Remember the Katrina photos...people stranded for days on roofs etc
...no power, fighting over food, water, gas. ER personnel might not be able to reach you in an emergency.
Don't forget your pets, they depend on YOU.

You don't have a gas stove? I can use my stove, but I'll have to light it manually because the electronic ignition stops working.
Unfortunately no-we have a generator but electric stoves are giant power hogs and we'd have to disconnect everything else to run the stove. It's easier just to cook on the grill and in the woodstove. My wife is planning on baking a cake in the Dutch Oven (you just open up the door and nestle it in the coals) once the power goes out tonight. There's another good use for all those eggs
I realize it is a very serious storm. I am not taking it lightly. I have emergency #'s of people if I need them.
My house is built fairly well. In my attics the studs are 2x8 . I do not live on a barrier island. I have taken all into account. This storm is going to be a huge storm and many areas inland may have more damage as it was with our last hurricane.
I remember Hurricane Gloria as being the one that was fairly bad as it skirted up the coast.
My home in Florida can take up to 135 mph winds . This last decade the codes in Florida have become very strict in building a home because too many homes just didn't hold up.
Something for you to consider, if you haven't already. If you do end up needing to be rescued, the first responders will rescue you but probably not your dog. If your town issued an evac order, you should go. Good luck.

Cooking on the grill sounds perfect. I bet that cake is good. Tell her to save me a piece!
My sister lives in the Poconos and heats with a woodstove. They have an electric stove as well and use the woodstove when they lose power.
I'm not sure. She didn't give details. She hasn't been there that long so I don't know what her PTO situation is. IMO she should just stay home. She lost her long-time job when the company went out of business last year, worked a six-month contract job, then got this permanent one. I think she's going in out of a combination of conscience because they are expected to show up and fear because she can't afford to lose this job. Her fiance is an accountant who is working part time at a sporting-goods store's gun counter because he can't find anything in his field. Just before the economic crash, my sister went back to school--got her bachelor's at the age of 45 and her Master's a couple of years later, and then the economy crashed and she was left at the age of 50 with student loans and few job prospects. She does not want to risk getting fired for not showing up when expected.

That's what I said. She had emailed someone to ask if it was necessary to come in. They didn't respond until she was actually at work already saying that if she wanted off to use a personal day. I told her to take half a personal day if they didn't smarten up and close the offices by noon. No one should be out driving tonight at 5 p.m.
They do IT systems for commercial real estate clients. There's no emergency work involved with what she does.
anyone else see all the news people on tv on locations acting like its soooo terrible right now and then you see lots of regular folk walking around very normally? its funny how dramatic they are being. its going to get worse, no need to pretend its already the end of the world.
