Getting a concealed carry permit in NJ is basically impossible unless you are retired law enforcement or you do armed private security for a living.
In this fine state we have no right to defend ourselves outside of our home, other than being permitted to carry 3/4 ounces or less of pepper spray. We just have to right to be helpless victims here. As stated above, criminals don't have to worry about encountering armed citizens in the streets. Combine that with our revolving door justice system and you have situations like this.
Just another reason Im looking to leave NJ.
Im heading over to VA in a few weeks , going to see what life is like there . They allow to carry there , if everything looks good , bye bye NJ at the end of this year. Cant wait !
Civilians can get guns for protection in NJ. There is no law against it, you simply have to follow the application and registration steps.
Sure like telling a kid he can be a star QB in the NFL. Of course its theoretically possible but not likely to happen. If you are a financial guy and carry large sums of money and checks you might get one.
When you compare a state like Maine and the ease with which you get a concealed or open carry permit to NJ, it is clear NJ's carry permit is impossible for an ordinary citizen to obtain.
No one wants to take your guns.... right!
Bet the trail leads right back to Newark, the land where gun laws don't exist.
You need 3 references just to get a firearms id in addition to having your fingerprintts run by the FBI before you can get a permit to purchase a pistool and then you need two more references and both applicatiobns require you give up HIPPA rights and then you get a NICS check run against a national database based on your driver licence in case you commited an infraction since you were cleared to get a pistol or long gun......then you can apply for a permit to carry.
No wonder NJ gangs forego such red tape when they need cash for drug purchases.
Criminals in NJ know that citizens cannot defend themselves and they know that, even if caught, the penalties for even violent crime are very light.
there's a number of ways that a citizen can defend themself. but i agree that the penalties are a bit on the light side. this is a crime of opportunity though. you have to be extremely careful as a business owner when closing up late at night.
Ha ha. You need to get like 3 character references who live in state and are willing to sign off, and if you want to actually carry the thing, forget about it.

I wonder if anyone lamenting about our right to defend ourselves has taken any sort of self defense training or martial arts?

don't speed. they may allow you to carry, but they pull you over if you're going a half mile over the speed limit.

Lol you think it's that easy huh? I have my gun permit but the laws here in NJ are out of control. Just ask the judges that deny everyone to carry because for some reason the judge knows best for everyone.

Permit to carry in Nj in essence, does not exist.
You need 3 references to obtain a handgun.
I have a shotgun. Not needed. Although, I'd have no issue getting 3 people to sign off on my character for a handgun permit, should I want that.
And I am 100% for fingerprints being run and the national database check. Any responsible gun owner should have no issue with that.
