Is it legal for a gas station attendant to round up your gas purchase? Like once the gas stops pumping and its full. I tell him to fill the tank so that means when it stops pumping, its full.I dont give him permission to charge me for more gas.I dont want more gas. With gas being the price it is these days.
Ask him to round to the nearest nickel. He has to justify receipts at the end of the day. I pumped gas. I rounded to the quarter or dollar. If the gas isn't spilling on the ground, you are still using it, so I don't understand the rationale about paying extra. But if you still feel that way, ask him to only fill your tank to half, and you can return twice as much. Or have him put in 10 dollars at each visit.

When it clicks off, you still have more room in your tank. You're using what you're paying for.
I have noticed that most stations these days just stop filling when the pump clicks off and do not put the extra 15-25 cents into your tank like they used to. I think when you pay with a debit card (I always do) and not cash they don't have to worry about making change for odd amounts.
I don't get it. If you're paying cash, they usually just top off so that they don't have to dig for pennies, nickels, times, etc. I never thought it was a big deal nor would make an issue of it. Legal/Illegal - I don't even think it's a big deal for most people.
I have a solution: PUMP YOUR OWN! Get rid of the NJ full serve anachronism law.
sorry to disagree, but this is one thing NJ gets right, there is almost no savings to the consumer with self serve, the only one who gets over are the station operators who can hire less help.

I am just in favor of freedom of choice, the same way as when there is self serve in a supermarket. You want full service, you go to a line with a cashier. It's your choice.
