The crazy thing is that house sat on the market for almost a full year in 2019. Someone bought it in 2020 for full asking of $655k, then sold it for that much more. Were probably at about 30% inflation between 2022, 2023 and 2024, so the selling price shouldnt be much of a shocker.

Maybe a case of Covid buyers having remorse and selling?

Area is nice enough, looks like many other NJ suburb areas built up in 1950's.

Essex Terrace is a dead end street so you don't get much through traffic.

Just read through the article, apparently they did $300k worth of renovation to the house. So they had $956k invested into the house.

Its mind boggling the amount of money people have to spend on houses in New Jersey. If you want anything remotely desirable don't even think about getting out of bed unless you have at least $1 million to spend.

I'm getting claustrophobic in my home, although we're not really ready to move. I've had my eyes on a few properties. Checking out their history many of them sold in 2006/2007 right at the peak of the prior housing bubble and the new prices are blowing those away.

One house I'm looking at:

Sold in 2000 for $650k
Sold in 2003 for $700k
Sold in 2006 for $935k
Sold in 2010 for $715k
Listed in 2024 for $1.4mm, likely to go way over.

I guess the solace is that it's very possible a $1.4mm house today could be selling for a substantially similar price in 2034 as it does in 2024.

Sayerville? Where is this house? That's crazy. I've lived in quite a few apts over the years in that town never thought too much of it and for my money you're better off in Old Bridge better yet further down Route 9.

What's a good town to get a SFH on a $800k budget where you can commute to NYC twice a week from? Is the Wayne, Fairfield (outsize of flood zone), Caldwells area feasible?

Weird, it works for me. I believe the address is 3 Frank Avenue, Sayreville.
