Probably because the police officer's report stated that they asked him to move on and zip up his shirt, as the reason for the interaction.

The plus side is that the idiot cop who filed the false report and didn't assist the victim when the other cop went nuts is in going to be in more **** than the violent moron.

Because according to information that was the first thing the officer asked him to do......button his shirt ?
also, i am not defending what the cops did. i hate cops and i rarely defend their actions. however, i hate criminals and generally people that disturb my peace also. the cop had no right to give the beat down and the guy didnt deserve one (from a cop anyway), all im saying is they were probably called to deal with this guy for a reason. by assuming they just pulled up and saw his shirt unbuttons so they decided to beat him down is deliberately making the guy more innocent than he probably is.

ill say it again though, i hate all cops. sometimes their abuse of the system does work out to my advantage though.
Now your making the guy guilty on assumption. Never assume anything. The bottom line here is the man did nothing to deserve the beating he got.

trust me being smashed in the face by a mentally ill person on the trolley platform feels the same as a sane one.

I could understand that if he were raping, murdering or even smashing someone in the face while standing on that corner when the police happened by but since his only "crime" was to have his shirt not fully buttoned I don't see the need for police involvement on any level.....even to make a fashion statement.

Exactly ??? What do you mean exactly as if thats what the video showed ??? He was neither harrassing, threatening or attacking innocent people.....he in fact was the innocent person and was minding his own business standing on a corner !!! Why do you make false assumptions and then treat them as if they are factual and need consideration ???

OK, everyone who is defending the guy on the corner is asuming he is standing there just minding his own business. On top of that they are assumign this cop just lost it and decided to beat the crap out of the guy. We do not know what the exchange between the guy and the cops was. My guess is that it was much less than pleasant. I doubt it went like this:

Cops "Hey you bastard! zip the shirt!"
Suspect "Why yes sir, allow me to do just that"
Cops, get out of car and beat guy.

More likely
Cops "hey, people are complaining, zip up and move along"
Suspect "I don't have to do that, I have every right, blah blah blah"
C : "I am gonna arrest you now"

beating esnues, deseverdly so. Guess what? You F with the cops, you catch a beating. That may not be "right" (Go, I do love that word), but it is what it is. Cop is a jerk? Take it. COp is rude? Take it. Give the cops crap and put your hands up, you get a beating. "Right" has little to nothing to do with the real world.

i am just responding to his statement. the fact that someone is mentally ill doesnt protect them if they are violating the rights of innocent people.

all cops are criminals. i expect no better from them than to act like the scum they are. the unbuttoned shirt guy is probably a dirtbag as well.

In your "created" senario that sounds reasonable........unfortunately it all falls apart when you look at the tape.......the man on the corner neither gave any crap nor did he even raise his hands to help deflect the blows from the billy club or the fists to his face. The bottom line here is that the police have no right to tell you how many buttons must be buttoned on your shirt nor beat you because you have the incorrect amount buttoned. Both these cops are a disgrace to the job they were hired to do that being to SERVE AND PROTECT !!! Neither the officer who beat him or his coward partner who failed to stop his partner from beating him deserve to remain employed by the police and should both be responsible for their behavior by having to personally reimburse this man for his hospital bills and any other losses. The city certainly didn't hire them to behave like that nor were they even working within the "scope" of their job.

How was he violating innocent people's rights?

Why do you think he was probably a dirtbag?

firstly, if you read my statement i was saying that i am responding to the guys post that insane people can cause just as much damage as sane people, not necessarily to this guy.

however, i do picture this guy as a foul mouthed loud obnoxious and aggressive guy yelling at people on the street corner. i wouldnt say that i know this to be true, its just my guess of the situation. of course, i will put my disclaimer again, the cops were wrong and i hate all cops. i am the last guy to defend cops.

How about psychological testing by THREE different psychologists, instead of just one!!!!!
