And if you're going 100 mph and someone behind you wants to go 110?
Yes Yes Yes!. If it's safe to move over ( not a lot of people going
75 in the right lane (*)) then move over. It's not your job to
tell the 110 person that they are traveling at an unsafe speed.
Are you saying that it's OK for you to go 100 mph, but it's not OK for
someone else to go 110? You'll have less stress if you can just let them go.
It's that kind of thinking that people use to justify blocking you from
going 75 up La Bajada hill --- "55 is fast enough for this hill, d@mmit!"
"That guy flashing his lights behind me is a jerk and can wait!"
Any Highway Patrol Officer "discovering" the 100 person and the 110 person should
issue tickets to both for speeding and an additional one to the 100 person for impeding traffic. Additional tickets can be issued for reckless operation if conditions
warrant it - such as passing a line of cars all going 75 at a speed of 100 or 110.
Going 100 mph or going 110 mph is not necessarily an unsafe act. Illegal, yes.
I'm sure 6 FOOT 3 can operate his truck at 100 mph just fine. So can Zoidberg.
If I had the right tires, my car would go 120 all day, but I like 75 better.
(*) If you are going 100 while a line of cars on
the right are going 75 then you are a nut case.
Mike, you just traveled that way not too long ago as i thought that it's already 75 MPH from Cruces to ABQ? and no matter what the limit is many always go 5 miles or more over it so going 80 MPH with the exception around T or C (state cops) probably is the norm anyway on I-25??
It's already 75 MPH, 6-3. I was just saying that at certain stretches of that highway, there probably shouldn't even be a speed limit, period. It's offically 75 MPH from exit 9 (Dona Ana) to Exit 221, which is the airport. But it's really kind of silly. For instance, if you put the cruise control on between exit 83 (Elephant Butte) and 139 (San Antonio) at 100 mph, you really won't be endangering that many, because there is barely anyone on the highway during that stretch of road. US 70 from Alamogordo, past the monument and BP, up to the WSMR entrance, is another example. You could max out whatever car you have, and speed is no longer an issue. It comes back to traffic volume, or lack of it. And in New Mexico, there sure is a lack of it in most places. As it stands, in Las Cruces, there is a 65 MPH speed limit from exit 9 to I-10, and even that's kind of laughable. People drive 80 MPH comfortably on that stretch of road, including myself.

Case in point as you answered my question as to why the OP is wanting I-25 to be 80 MPH ?? when it's already 75 MPH and he could go 80 to 85 and get away with it
Yeap it's an aweful drive as i count the mile marker signs from Socorro to T or C for excitement on that 75 mile leg of it .

Well since i have a 4x4 i usually drive like a granny at the 70 MPH speed limit as i always remember hearing about the 4x4 rollovers when a front tire blows so i usually just fret with boredom during the 3 1/2 drive when i used to drive from ABQ to Cruces or Alamo although i have plenty of ''Adam and the Ants'' music cd's to keep me occupied during the grueling drive .
Question
1. Why do you Paint your Bridges and signs, seems like a waste of money?
2. Is it really neccesary to have huge Highways out there, your cities are tiny.
Not to start controversy here, but the faster you drive, the more fuel you'll burn.
The price for a gallon of regular unleaded 86-87 octane is now $2.91 in elephant butte and T or C. Fuel economy: Save money on gas
I drive like a grandpa, but I hug the right lane.

The next time I go to Las Cruces, I'll photgraph the pretty overpasses.
Judging from my experiences the last time I visited I was unaware there were speed limits. I was cranking east in the rental at about 80 on Rt 60 west of the VLA and I was being passed like I was parked.
BTW - Trip # 2 is being scheduled for the Fall. When I finally being the Kawasaurus out there I will have some fun.

I would argue the first video you have is the only place on the Interstate highway system in New Mexico where there SHOULD be a speed limit. West of Coors Blvd and east of Tramway, it's really kind of silly to have one.
