A lot of those people need to be housed or sent to rehab.
Housing first is the best way to deal with homelessness.
But considering how little the Dems do for even its strong middle class liberal base, I doubt there will be sweeping structural changes to properly end homelessness in the city soon.
Not even a pandemic could help these people get housing.

No need to get political here, but if we may, let's talk about West Virginia, Kentucky and the likes, all heavily Republican and dealing with double the poverty, homelessness, drug abuse, etc etc than most Democratic-leaning states, so, yeah, let's not get too political here.....This forum is about the Housing lottery.

There is no reason in the world why the homeless should be in the street in NYC. This state is very gun-ho with housing people. Pataki, Bloomberg did nothing to subtract from the numbers. What is the solution you propose to rid the homeless from the street?
I just walked by there.... Just isn't a pretty sight. MTA Twitter somebody actually made a comment and posted pictures about the drug addicts and homeless taking over a 125th and Lexington.

Imagine having to use that subway stop on a daily basis and walk around that area for groceries and everything else, scary! I have a few friends down in Madison and 117th/ 116th area. I can't imagine leaving one of my friend's place late at night and walking towards that area and not to get into some trouble.
on the bright side, the block where the building is located seems to be quiet, at least during the day.

I can relate though, I'm near the Hub in the Bronx and its the same way. Its sad for them that they live that life and sad the city lets them take over areas.
