Like I said in a previous post they charged a family member $1600 to repaint. Who justifies these amounts? The lease says back to the condition you got it, ok that's fine but I can paint it myself for less than $1600. They also charged for a toilet bowl seat and lightbulbs I remember when I moved in I had an old toilet seat. It just doesn't seem consistent. But when my time comes I'll make sure to be there for inspection thanks for the replies!
They can charge whatever they want for painting. I paid $1100 to have my whole apartment painted. I bought the paint and paid someone to do the job. I am so lucky the new people liked it or they would have charged even more because they were darker colors. They wouldn't charge for a toilet seat cover unless it was broken. I moved out of 2 apartments there and I never saw that and I never saw a charge for lightbulbs. Just make sure that if anything has to be replaced with housing fixtures, make sure they give you what they took out, especially light fixtures. Some things you just can't take like a water faucet.
I lived there, there are times that I miss the place there was shopping the neighbors were nice mostly jewish and mostly electricians the parking was one spot but we had 2 cars my kids went to ps200 which was pretty nice and one went to a day care under one of the buildings. I did have to snatch her out of there in the end due to teachers having pets and she not being one. I think when I moved there in 1980 for a two bedroom it was about 250.00 the co op payment was about 35 hundred dollars there was even a good Italian bakery in walking distance. things changed the rent started going up and the services down then the drugs were manifesting around in a big way moved up to a 3 bedroom apt where the rent was still under 300.00 then demands became unbearable and the neighbors started changing in the beginning of 1980 it was fine had so many amenities lib bwlg supermarket then the police dept came in things went more haywire did not get deposit back moved 500 miles away. thank u for the op to tell part of my experience I do have a separate electic bill now it took some time to get used to.left there in82 stayed 12 years. money for 12 yrs was lost it is just better to invest all the way around and have your own.

As a long-time Electchester resident, I know, with certainty, the original information provided here is 100% FALSE!
FACTS:
1) NOBODY "owns" an apartment in Electchester, nor have they ever "owned" one.
2) Equity deposits for a 3-BR were $5,500 up until a few years ago; now the cost is approximately double that.
3) It does NOT cost $100/month to have a washer & dryer in the unit; it only costs $15 for each (total $30).
4) AC units are wall units, only!
5) There are five housings... the Fifth Housing are the Towers (newest buildings).

7) Electchester was originally built to extend affordable housing to the Local 3 Electricians and their families, some of which have lived there... there entire lives.
Has the neighborhood changed over the years? Of course it has! Show me one city neighborhood that hasn't! If you're fortunate enough to get into Electchester, you will save a lot of money on rent. A 1 BR unit is now renting for approximately $825/month!

I live in Elechester. I wonder what is going on? I see them removing grass and I think trees.
When I moved in back in the 80's, there were so many trees, squirrels and birds. I used to wake up to the singing of the birds, not anymore. I'm happy if I hear three or four birds singing. The squirrels, well they seem to be disappearing at an alarming rate.
I also noticed that pesticles is being sprayed on the grass. (Coincidence)? Why pesticides? It's not like we are growing food.

Thank God for you TerriGl. It seems that u are the most accurate & honest person that I've read from. I was recently send an invitation to a meeting that will be held at the specific Location known to the people who live in the complex stating information in regards to obtaining an apt in Electchester of the docments that I need to show them including background checks & monthy carrying plus Equity required deposits that you accurately stated. Thanks for the honesty & I guess that I'm not far away from optaining an apt & being a neighbor. I don't know how long away it is but they are asking for money & docments.
I lived in Electchester for 4 years. It is NYC law that they can't descriminate against people outside of the the Electrical Union that wishes to reside there. The Electrical Union (Union #3) is not as strong as it was before the 1990's. All cultures & ethnic groups currently reside in Electchester
I love the neighborhood; but that's where it begins & ends. The grounds are well kept, the cooperators has someone from their buildings upkeeping the landscaping.
Fourth Housing, which is where I resided, management is unprofessional and I have the impression that you must be in a certain click to get any satisfaction for your concerns. I moved out & my ex stayed. It took 4 years to get an outside parking space. That was 2007 he is still waiting for an inside parking space.
As time goes on there aren't any updates or improvement being made to the complex; but the maintenance fee is continuously increasing. It's increased 4 times since I moved out.
The janitorial service is lousy. When I visit the laundry is not kept clean. The trash receptacles are not kept clean, the stairwells are not kept clean & people loiter in the stairwells.
Parking is atrocious, it's extremely difficult to get a parking space.
I currently have a discrepancy w/Electchester that's very time consuming because Management is very unprofessional & there's nobody available to assist or they are not the person.
One very importiant thing I almost neglected to mention, they don't like to give heat when it is cold and you only use your a/c between the months of May - October unless you submit a doctors note to management.
I hope that this was helpful & other Electchester Housings are much better than fourth Housing.
I lived in by the rock and the pole for 6 months. My parents took my prom pictures there. As far as I am concerned there are only two downsides to living there: the lack of parking and being so close to public housing. As for the complaints about the cost, try renting an apartment in Manhattan, or buying a house anywhere in the 5 boroughs.
