Hey, need more info from all you knowledgeable folks....looking at a couple of apartments at/around that cross street this weekend. (Carpenter Ave - E227 St, Bronx, NY 10466
I am 27yo Caucasian female, single. Need to know if the place is safe for me, esp with getting home around 9pm every night....AND about parking....I need to drive to work everyday, I am ok with driving around for a few minutes and walking a block or two, but I don’t need an hour ordeal every day and be locked in my house when I finally have a spot
Any info and help is greatly appreciated!!!
Thank you
Jaime
Carpenter Ave itself and Bronx Blvd to the West are not too bad but White Plains Road up there is pretty scary if you ask me.I wouldn't want to live around there because of that.
You would be much better off looking in Woodlawn which is just a bit further West ,on the other side of The Bronx River or further South around Pelham Parkway.

That area is a very, very ,very BLACK area. I wouldn't live there but if you're ok with being surrounded by black people and their culture and lifestyle then go right ahead...more power to you.
Either Wakefield or Williamsbridge, depending on who you listen to.It's sort of between the two.
Others might consider it a part of Edenwald.
Bronx neighborhood boundaries can be very fuzzy.
As far as the racial references - I don't know quite how to respond, apart from the fact that it's sad that bad and black automatically go together in many people's minds. I actually don't know this area well, but I do know Woodlawn quite well (Bluedog's suggestion). It's a nice neighborhood, but the people who I know who live there say that parking is very tight, particularly if you're coming home late. It's surprising, since Woodlawn is mostly houses with driveways, but I doubt you'd have an easy time finding on-street parking there late in the evening.
Really, one very would have been quite enough.3 are totally unnecessary.
Then you should sell or rent your pelham coop and move there. We'll see how quick your tune changes. I'll give you 1 week before you flee the area being the only white person among other blacks. You'd feel very uncomfortable with a decrease of quality of life that you aren't used to. The you'd understand why the word "very" is repeated 3 times.
