Would legalization solve the problem? It would make drugs cheaper for you, and reduce the costs of the criminal justice system. Still, alcohol is legal, and its abuse costs society a lot of tax dollars, as well.
Legalization truly is the only logical answer. Overdoses are treated by EMS, etc with an inexpensive drug known as Narcan. It is also a very good idea for those who choose this lifestyle to keep a bottle of the stuff handy, as it can save a life.

Perhaps, in a libertarian world. Some people believe the same about firearms.

It's helpful, if EMS & NYPD are called, which does not always happen, or happens too late.

From the above link:

“We used the Naloxone, we injected it into his nose, shortly… after about 20-30 seconds, he … started breathing and his eyes opened,”

In New York City’s Staten Island borough, 7.4 of every 100,00 residents die of heroin overdoses.

Trying to scare heroin addicts with the thought of a needle in the nose is like pissing in the wind

But if neither Narcan nor Naloxone helps? Then i guess there's only one option left. Adrenaline shot to the heart.

Then, you can't be any relation to the "discrete, responsible" OP, eh?

It can happen to anyone--sometimes you miscalculate and go out.

"More than once" is too many. Certainly not "responsible". IMO.
Spoke with a lady today, whose son "discretely" ODed & died in her basement recently. Took his gf along to the next world. Left her baby behind. Quite the emotional scene at the house, according to the body removal guy.
