For all the new guys trying to get on, here is the pay scale because I know this question has been asked several times before on this forum:

0 - 6 mos = $31.2k
6mos - 1.5 yrs = $33.3k
1.5yrs - 2.5yrs = $34.6k
2.5yrs - 3.5yrs = $37k
3.5yrs - 4.5yrs = $41.6K
4.5yrs - 5.5yrs = $53k
5.5yrs & on = $62k

THE ABOVE FIGURES INCREASE BY 4% 8/21/2009 AND 4% AGAIN 8/21/2010.
THESE ARE THE NUMBERS NEGOTIATED BETWEEN THE CITY AND THE UNION. AS YOU GET TIME OTJ THE INCREASES VARY AS YOU CAN SEE. THESE FIGURES ARE THE CURRENT FIGURES. NEXT YEAR THEY ALL INCREASE BY 4% AND THE FOLLOWING YEAR THOSE FIGURES INCREASE BY 4%. $67,141 WILL BE THE EFFECTIVE TOP PAY IN AUGUST 2010 AFTER YOU COMPLETE 5.5 YRS OTJ.

Listen, let's get something straight right now. You don't know me. So stop with all the bull**** about being a rookie. Some of you people on the job think you know everything and have the right to make comments like you just made to me. Don't cry about work you're doing in the rain. If you can't handle it switch to another assignment. And the comment I made, in know way, suggested I knew everything. So stop talking out of your ass......

Police officer is not even on that list. Yea cops risk their lives, but so does the sanman.
Hey guy, dangerous doesn't mean death. How many sanmen have you heard of getting shot on the job, killed in a shootout, stabbed by a perp. AND......None of those jobs are Law enforcement....... Don't look at statistics like that and reply with stupid comments.....

Hey guys just think of the poor (yes i also mean money wise) servicemen who have a job ten (if not more) times more dangerous then any one of us including the police, and who don't get to go home after a tough shift at work. In their line of work you don't get to come home after a tough shift so don't get me started on who deserves a rise!!!

Just because they don't get shot or stabbed doesn't mean its not as dangerous. You are constantly dodging motorists and throwing away containers with god knows what inside of them.

In CDL training Moe, the main instructor was saying that besides 9/11, DSNY has more fatalities than NYPD AND FDNY COMBINED.

You really think you are MR. KNOWITALL don't you?

Are you referring to the comment he made the day the guy stepped out of the truck the wrong way? Man, he opened my eyes to how dangerous the job really is when he started ripping into that guy. He only got that animated to help all of us and didn't mean to single out that one guy but man he was furious.
