You do? How? Based on that small sample of pics?
Everyone has thier own taste, but Dominican beauty queens/models come in all colors.
The poster just wanted to make a point, nothing more.

Truth. Dominicans, like Puerto Ricans, are a tri-racial people (with different percentages of each "ingredient" of course).

Yes there is a small minority of whites in the Dominican Republic but who cares? The reality is the VAST MAJORITY are GREATLY mixed..why is this a problem or somehow wrong/unacceptable? Dominicans are NOT white just because you can find 10% of the population that LOOK white (and they also can be mixed as well)...the whoe argument is absurd. I believe Milli Vanilli was from Germany...so I guess all Germans are black and/or black mixed? Great logic!
Why is it a dumb example? The poster actually showed a segment that is not well known (judging by the posts here). She wanted to make a point.
Unfair to assign a single racial label on Dominicans.
No one said Dominicans are "white", you are assuming this just from those pics. Would you have said something if they were all black?

The White beauty queen thing comes from an ingrained ignorant cultural grain stemming from before Trujillo but strengthened moreso after. Basically a lot of Dominicans think White is more beautiful. So a lot of the beauty queens don't really fully represent Dominican feminine beauty.

Ada for example is a little more representative. What a mami!
The Dominican people shouldn't be attributed with Trujillos idealogy.
And I disagree, Dominican Republic has had many non-white/light beauty queens/models, etc.

One question:
How many Dominican songs are dedicated to blancas/rubias? And how many are dedicated to Negras/Prietas/Morenas/Mulattas? LMAO.

Turn on Dominican TV and you will see the the majority of people reflect what the actual range of the population is. Unlike a country we will not name whose TV shows do not represent a truthful range of their people.

What's the big deal? Why is this viewed as wrong, inaccurate or a problem? I would have posted the more representative and just as beautiful women of color, black, beige, and brown, that ARE an accurate portrait of DR and beauty on that island rather than painting this false picture with these few exceptions of "white" women in DR.
There is no big deal, but apparently posting pics of white/light (with the exception of Ada) Dominicans has caused some type of reaction.
And no one is painting a false picture, they are Dominican too.
Your posts attribute and make assumptions where no one has stated anything to the sort.

Trujillo tried to take out all the African elements out of the Dominican culture. He tried to keep the African percussion out of Merengue. It sounded crazy wack.
The fascist dictator Trujillo is dead, killed by Dominicans themselves. Stopy using him as some type of example of how Dominicans think.

Yeah but your denying a lot of the self-hate in DR. I've been to DR a lot of times. Black is considered uglyer. Women straighten their all the time, etc. It's a deep rooted thing there.

No offense to any Haitian. Because they are great people too.

Look here to see what goes on in the DR.

Yes, there are historical remnants of anti-Haitian feeling.
Don't know about the rest of your statement, but majority of Dominicans are taught in school that they are a mix of Spaniard/African (even though current studies show Taino too).

What?

I was only making the point of how Trujillo did indeed try to "whiten," some aspects of Dominican culture. Trujillo might be dead but he had a large impact on the country. He was dictator for about 30 years more or less. Also Balaguer was right out of the Trujillo admin, and he was president for a long time as well.

To say it's all black or all white would be unfair. To label each Dominican as a representation of the 73% of the population that is mixed would be wrong too. We don't do that in the United States. People don't do that in Canada. Your lineage is a personal manner, not a societal manner. It's a somewhat complicated issue, so it's understandable why people are somewhat confused about if the Dominican Republic is predominantly black, white or mixed.

Black features show more in predominantly white countries, where white does the same to places that are predominantly black. In the United States, that's why it's well-understood that people from the Dominican Republic (or descendants of) lean more to be accepted as black physically. Only 11% of the Dominican Republic is black alone, which isn't much more than the 8% in Puerto Rico and is similar to Cuba and the United States as well. Even though there are more white alone Dominicans, more claim to be black within New York City than white because of this sociology in the U.S. and NYC. Also, because blacks are poorer there and immigrate more.

I don't know about your percentages, but Dominicans are a tri-racial people already proven by genetic studies. Euro/Afro/Indo.
