If Donald Trump is elected President, would he enact federal legislation to end rent stabilization in NYC?
Would he push for the demolition of NYCHA projects in expensive parts of NYC (NYCHA gets funding from the feds).
Now personally I will be just FINE if Trump is elected President. The poor people dependent on all these programs including rent stabilization on the other hand might be in for a rude awakening if Trump is elected President.
I am voting for whoever wins the Democratic party (they recently pushed through major gains in civil rights for gays including gays in the military, gay marriage, etc), but at the same time it's certainly possible we could end up with President Trump (who I admit is the best Republican candidate).
Someone told me recently that Trump bought the land that Wald and Riis houses sit on. I have no idea whether or not that is true and I think it's a rumor but still...
No. He's more center than you think. Just watch. If he gets the nom, he will start swinging over to the left more and more. No one who is far right supports single payer healthcare(which he does).

Trump is a real estate developer. It's in the interests of the real estate industry to eventually end rent stabilization.

He'll probably leave local rent rules to local politicians. It is their mess to live with and deal with.
Maybe he'll cut funding to the NYCHA. Ideally he'd want to privatize the management and operations.

Landlords of market rate building would prefer Rent Stabilization to continue existing because if those RS apartments convert to free market, that would create an influx of free market apartments entering the market, increasing supply and lowing the demand, which in turn lowers the rent price for a free market apartment.
As much as I hate Rent Stabilization and wish it would end, the reality is the Real Estate lobby prefer the GRADUAL deregulation of RS apartment to slowly trickle into the market than all in one shot.
George Pataki, a republican and Rudy Guilliani, a republican, both had power at the same time and had the opportunity to once and for all end this stupid RS law. Ultimately Pataki opted to not end it. That was a ones in a lifetime opportunity to finally end RS and Pataki couldn't pull the trigger.

I heard the same about Mitchell houses out here in Mott haven. It's very interesting to see what he does with NYCHA which is federally funded.
I hope so. As a free market conservative, I don't like government meddling with private enterprise.
So you're against the government regulating and breaking up monopolies, safety regulations, Anticollusion regulations, etc., etc.? The free market is unable to regulate itself because capitalism is driven solely by profit. We wouldn't be chatting here today if "Big Brother" hadn't stepped in and forced AT&T to allow foreign equipment on its lines. The original Dial-Up modem would have never seen the light of day, if the Free Market and Private Enterprise had their way.
