Queens is the 3rd world. Mecca of American immigration.

I prefer Brooklyn and Manhattan over Queens but let's be honest. The Bronx is much more third world than any area of Queens

Only an untraveled idiot would make such claims. Try expanding your little mind before pulling irrespsonbile statements out of your ass. Try obtaining a passport and getting a clue.

Even in most ****ty areas of New York you are relatively unlikely to be the victim of anything beyond rudeness. And that's a big difference, so the third world descriptor isn't really accurate.
I've been to Ecuador, which I guess is considered "thirld world", and the cities were way cleaner than NYC and I don't remember seeing any bums. I don't think these cities are particularly dangerous either.

It's worth noting that even the rich parts of Manhattan are filthy

Great, ANOTHER bait thread.

"I'm leaving (insert neighborhood name here) soon, and I won't name the 'hood because this is obviously a bait thread."

Just give us the name of this so called "gentrifying neighborhood" that has been mentioned by the New York Times, and call it a day.

Anyone recognize this? It's insane that we live in such a wealthy city but have so many neighborhoods like this

I recognize "this" - meaning your complaint that things are too scruffy for you. However, have someone explain the general connotation of "Third World" to you. It usually implies a genuinely dysfunctional society, dire poverty, illiteracy, etc. That's not the same thing as a neighborhood that isn't middle-class American.
