I lived in NYC for 20 yrs, and let me tell you; SI isn't the forgotten borough for no reason.

You're much better off staying in PHX.

Better yet, move to nearby Tempe and get a place on Mill Ave. You can thank me later
I have lived everywhere in Arizona, Awahtukee, Chandler, Phoenix, Mesa, Perioa, Glendale, Scottsdale, growing up I moved a lot in Arizona and I absolutely do not want my kids raised here. Arizona is safe no doubt you can easily raise a family here but, there is no culture here, no diversity, no excitement

I think you should go to school and major in what would make you happy. What field do you see yourself working in down the road? Don't base what you should major in with the possibility of living on SI. It seems you are gravitating towards SI because of family. I do understand that. Go to school, things could change.....then decide if the move is right for you.

Sounds like a fairly good description of SI

I'd rather live on the Island more than any other boro but it has changed drastically too. Truth be told I'd rather be in Jersey but close enough to go to the city for shows , concerts and other things.

Staten Island is the only borough I would consider raising a family in personally.

Good schools, safe, clean neighborhoods, and easy enough to go visit Manhattan, Queens etc. without having to actually live in them.

I personally would rather raise a family in Nassau, Suffolk, or Westchester though.

Large numbers of NYPD, FDNY, and DSNY live on SI. Look into those jobs for starters.

Only if by clean you mean 10 feet above NYC's garbage from the 70's 80's and 90's.

Nothing bad could have come out of those time periods right???

Oh I don't know.

Taxes in NJ are out of control and no end in sight. Several family members and friends who went there from the Rock are now considering their next move. This ranges from back to SI or moving down south.

What am hearing more and more from peeps who live on the Rock is that the place is getting too congested and traffic is a nightmare.

I don't know how long you have lived on the Island but I have been here 65 years. It is very different from years ago. Taxes are much higher in Jersey but living there is a much nicer experience. At least where I go. Simple things like shopping are better than here. I might never leave the Island to live but I sure have thought about it. I live in New Brighton and the easy access to the ferry appeals to me and what the city has to offer beckons. It remains to be determined . Should I stay or should I go. I'm retired by the way.
