Yep! It's common enough knowledge. They don't ask for naught. It certainly helps one's chances of getting in.

That’s cute. Find the stats for that.

And why just Ivies? Why not the schools that rank as well as Ivies, which for undergrad, also includes several liberal arts colleges? And how about stats on the students's socioeconomic background? How many students apply and accept, but aren't willing to take on the loans if they can't get enough scholarship money?
2015 bronx science senior college matriculation/

See above link for 2015 Bronx Science matriculation stats about 5% ended up in ivy league schools (40 students). The biggest amount ended up at Stony Brook University with 74, University of Michigan with 35, and NYU with 34.

Stony Brook is famous for computer science so I can see many STEM students weighing prestige of degree vs cost of tuition.

They may or may not be, it becomes an exercise in finding the "least bad" middle school to enroll in, of which there will be plenty. The issue becomes lack of quality teachers to help them get to that level but if they get a free pass because of the 7% quota they are golden.

But all this is completely moot, there is no chance in holy hell that Cuomo will let these high achieving schools be gutted by the social justice bozo in city hall. Right now his excuse is "sounds like a good idea but no new legislation is being added at the moment" and after the election and staving off the Cinthia Nixon left wing challenge he's just going to straight up say "Go F yourself"

About 10 years ago, the WSJ selected a few top universities to see where their incoming classes were coming from. The highest ranking public schools in the country were Hunter, Princeton, Stuyvesant. I think Princeton is the only public school on the list that wasn't a competitive admission magnet.

The highest ranking schools overall were Urban Private schools.

This data is old, the methodology isn't ideal and not specifically Ivy, but it's what came to mind. If you have anything that supports your claim, I'd like to see it.

During my time at Stuy, NYU was everyone's "safe school". You could get away with not doing all that well at Stuy and still get accepted at NYU or other state universities. Whereas I think your chances of getting in at these schools would be less if you attended a non specialized school & similarly performed not all that well there. I think specialized schools carry a certain reputation amongst universities in the NY area & maybe the tri state area but not necessarily amongst the top tier universities and the Ivies.

I don't know about that, we'll see I guess

I don't think the average black or Hispanic student cares about getting into these schools, aside from the fact I'm not going to assume kids will be that racist.

That sounds about right. So most kids going to college in general and a lot of kids going to good, but not great schools and a decent number of kids going to great schools (ivy or not).

Now what are the stats for some middle of the road public high schools in the city? How about poorly performing public high schools in the city? How about a middle of the road Long Island public high school?

The stats are not so easy to find.

Scardales - Edgemont Junior – Senior High School

For scarsdale high school it had 32 that went on to ivy league from a class of 162 (20%).
