There seems to be a lot of confusion about tipping Uber (and other car services) drivers. I generally tip the driver $5 for a short trip and more for a long one. I give the driver cash at the end of the trip. Not sure how others do it. Please share...

I thought this was in the automotive forum???

We had our first Uber and Lyft experiences this summer in our trip to LA, I believe we only tipped 8 cents at max for some of the longer rides, not much tipping done in the earlier rides from what I vaguely remember.

I recently tipped either $2 or $3 on top of a $13 ride, and $5 on a $35 ride.

I tip on the app. They have three percentages offered, and I tip based on the customer service I get, etc.

I don't tip. I am tired of the tipping culture in NYC.

I tip the same as I would for a yellow cab -- 15% to 20% but maybe a bit more on a short ride. A ride has to be really awful for me to leave no tip at all and that's only happened to me a few times.

Less than $10 ride... $1.
$10 -$20 - $2.
$20 - $30 - $3.
$30 - $40 - $4.

Like to keep it simple.

Ditto. Why would it be any different?

The only way I wouldn't tip is if the car was dinged up and dirty on the inside. I always check the car on the app before agreeing to the ride because I want a clean car inside and out, and definitely no driver that smokes. If they smoke, they WILL get a smaller tip for sure. I don't want my clothes smelling like an ashtray.
