Community activists have failed to stop expansion and gentrification so much it is funny. Get a job fools!
Community opposition doesn’t usually flatout stop the advent of anything with deep pockets, but it does often get myriad concessions from such whether it’s local employment quotas, local construction restrictions, funding for a variety of community causes, or downsizing plans to somewhat minimize impact. That’s not that uncommon at all.

NY probably will give Amazon billions in incentive. Another million in affordable housing or some community amenities will probably silence those guys

Malls are not a signal of tourisM. The Rockaways aren’t there at all for tourism...yet

Casinos are heavily visited by just a subset of travelers mostly Asian and many locals

The Bronx has yankee stadium and tourism is still lacking there. Most tourist are either staying in manhattan or Brooklyn

An amazon office won’t jumpstart a huge tourism boost in Corona or Jackson heights lol

A lot of tourists hang out in Williamsburg and Bushwick too, presumably for the arts scene, restaurants, and nightlife

You really underestimate how well known Brooklyn is now around the world. It’s hip, cool and urban

So much so, you have tourist even making the long trek to manhattan. Also look at how popular Airbnb is in Brooklyn and the hotel industry boost.

But back to Queens, amazon will be great for the area and nyc in general. We need to attract more jobs because the population here will continue to grow

There is just no way Queens compares to Brooklyn tourism. I don't think that poster has spent much time in the greater downtown Brooklyn area or North Brooklyn (Williamsburg, East Williamsburg, Bushwick at least). That being said Queens is pretty urban overall too, but even the most urban parts of Queens seem to get mostly local tourism.

And the Barclay Arena, Brooklyn Museum, Botanical Gardens all in the same area also.

Queens doesn't have a Barclay Arena, thats the biggest thing Brooklyn has over Queens.

Yeah by greater downtown BK area I meant all the neighborhoods in its orbit which includes the attractions you mention. There's really just so much to list.

Even Coney Island gets a lot of tourists in the warmer months

The BQE is already bad enough during the day along with the LIE. It will become a nightmare to go on. LIC is essentially like a neck, it's only reachable from below the neck. It is not the easiest to reach area by any transit. It's not a hub and there are few ways to get in and out.

The 59st bridge is already a huge bottlenecking area and the the E and F lines get jammed there during rush hour.

I've heard that when Home depot's lease is up on Rockaway Blvd in South Ozone Park they are not renewing the lease and a big convention center is going in its place. I know it doesn't compare to Barclay's, but I believe it will be successful.
