If i ever left NYC it would most likely be for a career move meaning that an opportunity presents itself and makes sense. But with covid 19 I am not entertaining anywhere that is not located in the Northeast. With that being said when Im ready to buy a home the only two states ill consider are the CT, NJ and PA counties that are part of the NYC metro area.

Overall other than opportunities I am not planning on leaving NYC in general until retirement years. I am 30 so I have 35 years left to think about it lol

My friends retired to the Poconos and are paying $2,500
property taxes for a 2 bedroom one bath home. Love it.
Saving tons of money. Living a simple and Great Quality of life.
I’m actually not complaining, just responding with factual information. Folks come to the Poconos with a set of expectations that life is overall easier and cheaper. Not necessarily the reality for most

Ask your friends what their school taxes are. Cause I know of no one in the Poconos that has a combined tax that low, especially Monroe and Carbon counties. I’m thinking Wayne and Pike are very similar.

Mathjak can attest to that.

Response: I get your point and you are spot on with the facts. Credit to you.

Cheap living can be had.

I love the dry heat. This wet humidity that we have every summer is so annoying and causes pain to my body. The dry heat is the best.

Being older now, I don't do the clubs in NYC anymore, hey, there aren't even many left anymore, Limelight, Roxy, Webster hall, etc.....all but a memory, so I don't feel like I am missing anything. I don't go to bars, never did, I hate them, so that I don't care about.

As for eating out, Id eat out every day if my wallet would allow me, and brooklyn is on the map, so we don't even have to go into the city much anymore.

Online shopping is the best thing since popcorn, so don't have to go to 34th Street etc anymore....
so I wouldn't even miss NYC anymore.
I did California for over twenty years, Palm Springs about 10 years. The places I would have liked like Rancho Mirage, were nice, until the 120 degree temperature, made we forget stop signs, made me forget my name. Palm Springs proper and Cathedral City have changed, and a LGBTQ crowd, and Hassidic Jewish People have taken it over. I have nothing against either group, so please do not call me a racist, far from it. However, Palm Springs is not that big, neither is Cathedral City, and one most feel totally comfortable to be able to live there, and I did not. My choice in California would have been Montecito, but cannot afford it. So, let me stay in my New York City......which after one has traveled to different places for a myriad of years, one becomes more savvy about the places one would enjoy living in.
Because it is not only the people that one has to deal with, weather, and a multitude of other factors come into play......If I was able to live in NYC through the Koch and Dinkin mayoral years', I am sure I can weather the Covid-19, one.... and Mayor Di Blassio.....

For me, I never thought I'd permanently leave New York, aside from extended summers out east or Europe or winters in FLA. The usual get-aways, right. But now that this experience has happened, for me, it's time to flip the script. There'll never be another New York in my remaining lifetime, so I'm going country -- With occasional returns to the city. Who knows if I'll ever sell the apartment without taking a bath on it.... So for me, I'm looking at

Part ONE:

1. The Eastern Shore of Maryland.
2. Coastal Maine.
3. Somewhere rural between Ithaca and Cooperstown, NY.

And Part TWO:

Where would be a good place to start a colony of old New Yorker's? (Not South Florida, considered the 6th Borough.)

And as companies large and small pull out of NYC, what would be their "Second City;" a regional city that's selected as a regional base? Maybe...

White Plains to Poughkeepsie (and greater Hudson Valley?)
Greenwich-Stamford-New Haven, Connecticut?
Binghamton to Ithaca (a growing tech region?)
If you want to get the best bang for your buck then you can’t beat the Midwest.
Housing is more affordable here than anywhere in the country. Dozens of cities have direct flights to New York
Traffic is much lower than the South or East.
Taxes are lower yet the quality of services is better.
Most Importantly it flies under the radar so you don’t have to worry about your new home getting overcrowded.
