I'm planning on moving very soon (hopefully at the years end) to New york. I WAS looking at Florida but from what I researched and word of mouth they do not have a strong information systems need.

How hard is it to find Tech support jobs in NYC area? Or should I stay in Canada?

I appreciate your thoughts both good and bad

Unless you want to do contract work; finding a full-time IT job is going to be rough. The job sector is a mess all across the board. If you are currently in a position stick it out and wait for the economy to improve.

I work in IT and I hate it. I also would rather live in Canada than outside of NYC so I guess its sort of like the grass is always greener kind of thing.

What sort of IT person are you? Unix admins and SQL DBAs, and backup administrators seem to always be in demand. Programmers slightly less, but if you were a programmer I bet you would have called yourself a programmer not an IT person.

It's funny I was JUST thinking last night that I hated working in I.T! Unfortunately I'm not higher up in the food chain. I'm pretty much in the technical support (helpdesk) type roles. I've always thought about going back to school but I hate programming.

Seeing how various technical jobs can easily be outsource now days, I would stay where your at and try to work yourself up the food chain.

i agree also theres not a lot of technical support in NYC. unless you are going to do internal tech support for a firm in the city...

i don't see that this would pay well enough to live in NYC....
