User names - what can they tell us about a person? (husband, sociopath)

My user name came about by the fact that as a historian many people come to me asking about genealogy, history and regional stories. I make many visits to schools relating our true history to students, not the politically correct nonsense of today. On one of these visits a teacher introduced me as, "The man who can clear away the mist of time and give you the true accurate history of our nation." Thus my user name was coined.....
What a great story and what an interesting thing you're doing as a historian. Kudos to you, especially for your work with kids.
About twenty years ago, I found this high school history book from the late 1800s at a local used book store. WOW. It is absolutely fascinating. Let's just say that the history of our nation from that perspective comes across a bit differently from what I learned in the 1960s and 1970s and from what my kids and grandkids are taught today.
Oh - and here's something you may get a kick out of, as a historian. When my kids were little, I thought it would be cool to buy as early a version of the Uncle Remus stories as I could find, because I had always loved "Song of the South" and the Disney version of Uncle Remus and they had too. So I searched around and found a 1915 hardback copy of Uncle Remus online and I ordered it. I was so excited about getting it and reading it to my kids!
Until I got it and realized there was no way I could read it to my kids.
I find that sometimes people infer a whole lot more than what the reality is when it comes to usernames. I can remember a comment once (or maybe even a whole thread) complaining about parents being sooooo overinvolved with their children and focused singularly on their role as parent, that they incorporated "mom" or "dad" (or some version) into their usernames. I did have someone once tell me they felt sorry for Macie. Well, that's ok since she is a dog. And I'm not overly wrapped up/obsessed with her either (although I am quite fond of her). She just happened to be at my feet when I was registering and couldn't think of what else to put. Nothing more, nothing less.
My user name came from a Director who, when introducing me to the audience following an improv show, called me "a true theater gypsy". He based that on the fact that I had appeared with several different theater companies and acted in both staged plays and improv.
When the time came to pick a screen name, I remembered that introduction and used it.

Ha! I think I actually remember that thread (though I'm sure I wasn't the one who told you I felt sorry for Macie - LOL).
Poor Macie - I'm sure she's quite put out with your user name.
But to me, hearing you expound on it makes me think that yes, you love your dog. If you're like most pet "parents," you feel maternal toward her to some extent. I think your user name is touching.
Not in my case. I chose my username for two reasons:
1) I couldn't think of what else to put when I was registering. It was a case of: "Ah screw it, just me".
2) I didn't originally intend to stay here when I registered. I simply wanted to ask a question about something, and that was it. Had I signed up with the intention of posting over the long term, I would have chosen a username that was more to my liking.
On other websites however (Youtube etc), I chose a username specifically relating to one of my interests.
Well, at one time in my life I had an old VW Beetle and a pug dog at the same time. For quite a few years, actually. A co-worker said to me one day, "I'll bet you're the only person in town who has a Pug in a Bug!"
I thought it was pretty cute and have used puginabug as a user name a few times.
