If you were sitting down by yourself, would you find it odd if a complete stranger came up, tapped you on the shoulder, and asked if everything was OK?

Would you find it odd if a complete stranger came up and touched you on the shoulder asking if everything was OK?

it depends on what I was doing. I was sitting on the floor of a busy airport having a complete meltdown/panic attack once, and no one said a word to me. I kind of wish someone had asked. I don't know why no one did. Maybe I'm good at pretending I'm ok, but I was on the floor, shaking and crying...

Yes, I would find it odd. But I suspect there is more to this story. Am I right?

Yes, and honestly I would very rudely tell them to mind their own business.

Many years ago I was at a rest center along the highway where I was meeting my Ex to do the child exchange We lived about 60 miles apart at the time and my son was just 5 years old. So we'd meet at a 1/2 way highway rest stop for the 2x a month visitation my Ex had with my son. Anyway, they were about 20 minutes late (this was before cell phones, in 1980) and I was going into full scale panic because my Ex was a heavy drinker. A stranger approahed me to ask what was wrong; I guess my face was telling a story of despair.

So this stranger asked me if I was okay and was there anything I needed. Of course I just said I was waiting for someone who was late and a bit worried, but I was fine. The stranger kind of hung around a while and was there when they arrived.

I've thought about that over the years. And thought about how I really needed to get a grip when I am upset and not wear my heart on my sleeve.

Maybe you also could work on learning to contain yourself.......

Depends on the situation. I'm constantly impressed by the kindness people show to strangers. If I was showing signs of distress and someone approached me I would not be upset. Now if it was out of the blue and I was enjoying a warm sunny day on a park bench I might be a little weirded out.

Yeah.

I have a 3ft rule. If anyone I don't know gets that close and touches me, they are one step closer to getting knocked out.

Depends on how I'm acting, I suppose.

If I am just sitting there minding my own business reading a book or something, yes...that would be strange.

If I am crying...well, hell...it makes sense.

I am a little alarmed by the rude, violent reactions others would have to a concerned inquiry.

I would think I must look ill for someone to ask me that.....but still hold my purse tightly..

A lady I knew had a woman come up to her in the store, telling her how cute her grandbaby was,
etc..keeping her distracted while another woman took her purse out of the cart...
