Some people are mentioning exaggeration but I know just how you feel. I have 2 friends who are UNDER 600 pounds who have broken a dining room chair and my couch. Luckily, the couch was still under warrantee and we were able to have it replaced (it was a reclining couch and the seat itself was all bent). It really sucks when we have to pay the price for our obese friends. I would never think to ask them not to sit on my furniture, but it sure sucks when they break it!
People think I'm being irrational when I say that getting fat is one of my biggest fears. I don't think I am. This thread is scary. Thinking about being morbidly obese is terrifying. And its real. So very real.
I agree. I guess one good thing about Cali is that I don't have to worry about my couch cushions.
You guys on this thread are full of it. Most 600 plus pound people are semi-bed bound. They aren't out gallivanting around and visiting people. Are there exceptions, probably, but I ain't buying it for the most part. The images search below shows them in bed and in the hospital in a pic or two, but whatever, I'm done arguing about it cause I don't give a rip about it either way.
I can't disagree at all. I have several family members in the 400-500 pound range and none of them are out gallivanting. They leave their homes solely for food shopping or doctor's appointments. They spend most of their days in bed. All of them struggling with their mobility.

People in California don't have couches? Funny, I've lived in California all my life (notice how I do not call it "Cali") and everyone I know has a couch.

LOL, yeah, I think she means she has a couch, just that it won't be destroyed, IDK, can't speak for her. In terms of the "Cali" thing, yeah, that instantly tells me that you're not a native from here. I'm a native here and all the people that are born and bred here NEVER call it Cali. LOL, doesn't matter, just thought I'd throw in my two cents.
The only time people started calling California "Cali" was from the Biggie song and he was a NY native.

Yep. Native Californian here and couches are the norm in California. Cali is a city in Colombia.
As far as heavy people using chairs goes...that $42 chair is the solution.

Just buy a chair that will handle that weight. Tell them that it's their chair when they come over. No need to elaborate. I had someone sit on my toilet at a party and they loosened it for me. The toilet then wobbled when sitting. I couldn't believe it. WOW!
back to the couch...I think they meant that "Cali" people are skinny for the most part so their couches don't get destroyed <shrug>
California, like every other state, is a mix of body weights, heights and shapes. Living in California does not make people immune to being heavy, nor does it guarantee a thin, toned body.
