yes, we never sit down, we are always moving around. Hahahaha, I meant I don't know any heavy weights nor do I see many extremely big people and I am surprised to hear so many people on CD claiming to have 300lbs + people in their life.

Of course I have couch cushions. 4 of them.

All the people around me call California "Cali"

He needs to buy his own chair and leave it in your house. You should not be responsible for his limitations. You are doing enough by hosting him to allow him to see his children.

The images search below shows them in bed and in the hospital in a pic or two, but whatever, I'm done arguing about it cause I don't give a rip about it either way.

While I am sure that there are a few people in the 600 plus range that live active lives (go to work, visit friends & relatives, drive, party, etc.) IMHO they are probably the rare exception.

I am also surprised that so many people have commented that they personally know/knew someone of that weight.

I'm in my mid 60s, live in the land of "beer and bratwurst", and I do not recall ever meeting, knowing socially or professionally anyone even close to that weight. I am a retired teacher so I have worked with hundreds, if not in the low thousands, of co-workers & parents since I started teaching in 1975.

Now, the father of one of my former students did say that he was 350 pounds, but at 6'5" he "carried his weight well" and there were several other people who I suspected could have been about that weight, maybe even a little heavier. But, 500 or 600 or 700 pounds, nope I do not believe that I even met or worked with or socialized with or had in my home someone of that weight.

It's not that I am discriminating against people who are morbidly obese (heck, I'm probably considered obese, myself) but, IMHO, most people of that weight are just not out in the workforce or community very often.

I used to weigh more than 400 lbs and it didn't stop me from riding a bike or walking my kids to school or walking my dogs around the neighborhood or going to theme parks or the zoo with them, or going shopping at 7 or 8 different stores in a day. Most people assumed I weighed about a hundred pounds less than I actually did. People aren't good at guessing weight.

You're making my point. We used to have a SIL that was high 300's maybe 400, and she was pretty acive, but she was in her 40's, I think she's probably gonna blow out her knees like her mother did, her mother was a bit bigger, so yeah, you can be 385 or so and be pretty active, but it catches up with you much quicker. I had a co-worker that was a big big man, 6'4" and he was easily 375 or more. But like you mentioned he carried it pretty well, still looked pretty fat, but at that height it wears much better than someone who is 5'6" or so like the SIL I was talking about.

You get into that 600 pound range and naw... most people aren't out visiting casually. It's a challenge to get up and use the head or get oneself bathed without help.

Whether on not the OP is taking liberties I get what she's saying, the person is large and is a chair terminator, I get her concern I'm not just not sure how to broach the subject, it's gonna sound mean no matter how you say it and I'm sure the fat person is pretty aware of their fatness.

Whatever, the only solution is to get a chair that is known to be able to hold someone really large. How that happens IDK

Thank you for sharing. I am glad that you did not have the health issues (joint problems, difficulty walking, etc.) that many people that are overweight have.

I do admit that it is very hard to judge someone else's weight or size. I remember when I asked a co-worker & close friend if she wanted a somewhat expensive outfit that I had recently purchased and couldn't return (the color & fit weren't right on me, but I thought that it would look great on her). I had assumed that we wore about the same size (XXL). She was horrified and told me that she was a size L and how could I possible think that we were "about the same size". Man, that was the last time that I ever did something like that.

I have a friend who is heavy and once overheard some rude people in a clothing store speculating on her weight (obviously they were too loud). One guessed that she was "well over 400 pounds" and the other said "probably 450 pounds". She was actually about 250 pounds. While that certainly is not average weight it is no where near 400 to 450 pounds.

It's interesting to speculate on the demographics of your neighborhood/acquaintances.

I agree that California, at least the coastal areas, seems to have fewer obese people than some regions. When I visit my sister in Spokane, I immediately notice that the population as a whole is heavier than at home.
