Gastonia and Rock Hill is about the same distance from Charlotte as Durham and Chapel Hill is to Raleigh. Gastonia and Rock Hill are included in Charlotte's MSA. Durham and Chapel Hill are not included in Raleigh's MSA. The Charlotte people try to make like that's an equal comparison, that's how desperate they are to seem big city, lol They don't want to compare CSA to CSA because that's a fair comparison
Charlotte has no choice on how the US census lays out it Metro Area just like Raleigh has no say.
If you have a problem contact The US Census Bureau. I don't think you will have any luck.
If Charlotte had its way it would drop 3 county that drag down the Metro.
I agree...Statesville and Salisbury (Iredell and Rowan counties) are much more associated with Winston-Salem than Charlotte in my opinion, or at least the more northern parts of the counties are.

Raleigh is a nice place, but regardless of how you want to slice it, Charlotte is bigger than Raleigh. So if they are desperate, where does that leave you?
Growth in Urban Population Outpaces Rest of Nation, Census Bureau Reports
Among urbanized areas with populations of 1 million or more, the Charlotte, N.C.-S.C., area grew at the fastest rate, increasing by 64.6 percent, followed by the Austin, Texas, area, at 51.1 percent, and Las Vegas-Henderson, Nev., at 43.5 percent. The Charlotte and Austin areas also had the highest rates of land area change, increasing by 70.5 percent and 64.4 percent, respectively.
2012, 3 years ago, lol ! "highest rates of land area change" Charlotte annexed all the crack houses near the border of Union County to cheat

They are both pretty large cities on their own too...both have a larger population than Chapel Hill.

A truth teller and fair comparer? Charlotte's population of 800,000 is "bigger" than Atlanta's 400,000 and Miami's 400,000 but the CSA's of metro Atlanta and metro Miami are over twice Charlotte's CSA. CSA is the only fair gauge of city's true size.
Charlotte CSA - 2,442,000
Raleigh CSA - 2,075,000
That said, yes Charlote is larger than Raleigh, not by much, and Raleigh's growing at a faster clip. Won't be long…..

Hey, watch it, don't give em any ideas, they'll start trying to claim Asheville is part of their metro, lol !
