This pic is probably a few months old, but it shows how development is now all around Romare Bearden Park.

Topgolf targets early 2017 opening for Charlotte golf entertainment center

Construction is set to begin soon on a site near Arrowood and I-485, at the Whitehall Corporate Center. The building will total 65,000 square feet. A Topgolf affiliate purchased the 14-acre site in a $4.4 million deal that closed April 18.

Some recent pics of center city Charlotte development...

http://photos.clearskyimages.com/img...91090307-3.jpg

http://photos.clearskyimages.com/img...43205747-3.jpg.

For years Charlotte was known as the city with a few tall buildings, but very few buildings in the midrise category. Things are changing quite a bit. Within a few years, Charlotte will have nearly 40 buildings 250ft tall or more.

Still though, I think the biggest development story for the city will be North Tryon's light rail transformation. That's one suburban corridor in Charlotte that could use the make over.

Lincoln Harris just close on the second part of the Charlotte Observer site for 23.1 Million for 4.1 acres with a grand total of 34.1 million for 9.1 acres.

Lincoln Harris hasn’t said what it plans to do with the site, but preliminary records indicate the development company is planning a major mixed-use development. Johno Harris, president of the company, said Tuesday that he can’t talk about potential plans for the site.

This is the site of the rumored urban mall. Some people have mentioned Simon as a partner, who operates SouthPark, Concord Mills and has a partnership with Tanger Outlets on Charlotte Premium Mall. Hopefully we'll get public info soon.

Im assuming there is some kind of feature that doesn't allow you to edit a post after several hours of posting it because there is no edit button hours afterwards.

So far, projects topped out this cycle and I'm going to give rough estimates on floor counts because I'm not looking them up):

- 22 floors, Element apartments
- 24 floors, Sky House I Apartments
- 43 floors; Museum Tower apartments

Under construction:

- 33 floors, Ascent apartments
- 20 floors, Kimpton Hotels
- 17 floors, Springhill Suites
- 25 floors, AC Hotel
- 23 floor Stonewall Station apartments
- 21 floor 615 College, Office
- 24 floor 300 Tryon, Office
- 24 floor Skyhouse II apartments

Coming soon:

- 34 floor Tryon Place, office
- 23 floor Tryon Place Hotel
- around Three 20 floor buildings, Charlotte Observer site
- 20+ floor Mixed Use Skyhouse block
- 17 floor Northwood Ravin Stonewall, mixed use

And supposedly according to great sources on another site, there are 2 20+ floor buildings to be announced soon.

Retail highlights:

- Lots of retail on Skyhouse block. Full service Publix. Veterinarian office opened so far.

- As I mentioned before, rumors of an urban mall on the Charlotte observer site

- Whole Foods and Whole Body along Stonewall. Excluding the urban mall, the developments along Stonewall should add nearly 400,000 sq feet of retail

- Bank of America Plaza & independence Plaza at Trade/Tryon are undergoing lobby conversions to retail. Other lobbies doing the same such as the chamber building just announced they are going to add retail space to their building that Famous Toastery will occupy.

Rail Transit:

- Blue Line still scheduled for summer 2017 to UNCC.

- Gold line extension should start construction later this year.

- Silver line studies to Matthews should be complete by this summer with a chosen route.

A lot of that coming soon is just pure speculation right? That seems like a lot for Charlotte. If so, wow, that is crazy.
