This is what a Raleigh poster on another forum has to said about downtown Raleigh.
I think that until downtown Raleigh really gets its act together and puts forth a more authentic effort to create a corporate friendly environment downtown, big corporations will continue to look elsewhere. Don't get me wrong, downtown has made a lot of stride in recent years, but we're still not seeing the kind of activity that will attract big players downtown. Union Station and Dix park will help, but continuing to allow local developers and the status quo crowd to rule the roost will not help.
Raleigh has got to start thinking and acting BIGGER on a consistent basis.
I'm wondering if you saw my two earlier post just today "Raleigh one of the 50 fastest growing economies in the world" "Raleigh one of the best performing cities for 2015". Charlotte wasn't listed on either of those, just sayn'. Apparently Raleigh is either more corporate friendly than you think or it doesn't matter enough to knock Raleigh out of the best performing cities and economies in the both the US and the world. What big corporations are looking elsewhere? Be careful with that because B of A may be leaving Charlotte for Boston. Red Hat is downtown Raleigh. Citrix is downtown Raleigh. More will definitely come as downtown is really starting to take off not to mention the entire rest of the city.
And then there's this: Charlotte isn
Charlotte's had their apartment/condo boom downtown, there's talk they're overbuilt now with vacancy rates around the corner about to rise. Whereas Raleigh….and Durham's….downtown boom is only just beginning.

Please refrain from making this another Charlotte vs. Raleigh thread. Nobody wants that.
Agreed this is about all nc cities, not just Raleigh and Charlotte. Like I said before post some information that is useful or none at all. Go make your own thread and have conversations with yourself.
Picture I took in Wilmington a few years ago.
You can go down on Water Street in Wilmington and take a boat over to the USS North Carolina.
Wilmington has done a lot of work on the river front that is now a place were a lot of people go for all kinds of events.
Friendly competition: Why is a Field & Stream store opening down the road from Dick's?
When Dick's Sporting Goods opens a Field & Stream store in Greensboro this fall, it will be a half-mile from a Dick's store. It's really more like a stone's throw, as they'll be in shopping centers cater-cornered across a common intersection.
The Piedmont Triad Partnership is a leadership organization bringing together the business community in the triad region to promote prosperity and job growth. We are supporting regional development platforms including megasite development, the aeroplex anchored by Piedmont Triad International Airport and the redevelopment of the Whitaker Park Complex. We believe that supporting these transformational projects will prepare the Triad to compete for major economic development job generators.
