Im sure you will feel alot more welcomed and accepted as a long newyorker in nc that some one from the south would feel in new York...as far as the economy goes yes the cost of living is lower but so is the pay..it evens out to about the same. If you relocate here you probably will face the same financial issues as in long island and that $80.000 wont last long once its gone it will be the same old challenge to stay ahead as it is up there
