As if I wasn't already emotional enough today, I'm now on the verge of tears to have just opened an article on WNEP's web site that contains a blurred image of a mutilated dog, one of three that have been discovered in a creek in Wyoming County. The three dogs had been beaten, skinned, and mutilated so badly that veterinarians couldn't determine their breed. Their best estimate is that the one dog is an adult female and the other two are puppies.

What the hell is wrong with people around here? Animal cruelty stories occur on a weekly basis! NO creature deserves to feel this sort of pain. How would these redneck scumbags that commited these heinous acts like it if I skinned them alive and then mutilated their corpses?

That happens everywhere, some truly deranged people live everywhere.

But, why post about this? What about kids who are abused and molested everyday. Like the guy busted in Monroe county for child porn, isn't that a far more vicious and disgusting act of humanity than torturing a dog?

I never said I condone child abuse. I just saw the blurred image tonight of those mutilated puppies and my heart sank. I'm sure if I saw an image of a child crying after being assaulted, I'd be just as upset. Never underestimate the power of photography (hell, I was even told my own photos made Carbondale of all places look good! LOL!)

I just think it's particularly GRUESOME for someone to have no respect whatsoever for life, whether it be human or animal. Don't people realize that animals experience pain as well? If you don't believe me, go over and step on your dog's tail (Don't REALLY do it!!!) How would you like it if a human being were beaten and flayed. I couldn't even imagine that.

It just bugs me (not directed at you) because it seems that animal abuse receives more press than other and IMHO more important abuses against women and children.
You see all of these beautiful actresses naked for PETA, I do enjoy seeing a naked Christina Applegate or Alicia Silverstone, but wish they would take up causes like genocide in Africa, Child porn in Monroe county or domestic abuse, rather than worry about if chickens live in cramped cages.

How terribly sad that those poor animals have suffered so severely. We live in a world where so many people are NOT taught compassion or love and are only shown how to hate. There is no regard for life and I believe those who do these things will get theirs, in time. They can't escape that kind of atrocity and not have to answer for it...whether in this life or the hereafter.

I feel exactly as you do about this Scranton. I don't see why the other guy couldn't see that you were simply reacting to a particular incident. The human mind is not capable of handling all of the atrocities in the world at once.

Because I was wondering, of all the horrible atrocities that happen on any given day, why he picked one about animals to post about.

It is a very unsettling thing to see such images and to even think for a moment that someone could see their way to do such a thing.
Undoubtably.
The unfortunate truth is that people who commit such acts are usually social mis-fits.I am not necessarily referring to the "rednecks".
I had the unfortunate experience of seeing the rescue of dogs that were hurt by a gang.It was very much like what you described above.
The two common factors that I would be willing to bet were in common here are the lack of social conscience.
This is a direct result of something a very wise man told me.
He was a minister, and he explained to me that people who are on drugs and or alcohol lack a social conscience and a perception of pain.Although I realize that drugs and alcohol usually just exacerbate the problems people have..
What you are seeing here is a total lack of social conscience.
The only way to stop it is to make examples of these people in a BIG way when they are caught AND to impose many more fines and jail time for the same.
I know it seems that in this area there are so many of the kind of people that hurt animals.Unfortunatly some of this is due to a sick upbringing by those that simply have a great lack of respect for animals..the worst ones I have met being the ill educated.
Those people would perhaps not do such an act but think nothing of letting a horse go without grain, putting a dog on a chain for hours and days on end with little or no contact,or letting domesticated animals out in the freezing cold...all because they don't believe "it" merits attention and that they can "take care of themselves".
The frame of mind must be taken from "it" to "him" or "her".
While I do believe we have enough laws in this country to make someones hair stand on end..I truly believe we need legislation to stop this once and for all ..especially right here at home.
I personally have contacted and had numerous letters written to local representatives for the same .

PS..An example of a social misfit who hurt animals..
Jeffrey Dahmer.

It's not just the social misfits doing the abusing, it's the ministers too.

I have had to turn the channel real quickly on TV and ...........I can't start at the top of this thread.
I just heard a few words, and was so upset by the thought of an animal having to go through this.........
Anyone who would hurt an animal, should have a big jail term.
Personally.......I'd give them life, thats what I'd do.......
There is something very, very, sick in hurting a living creature.

I can't look or even understand an animal being hurt. I have 3! There was a woman in Birchwood Lakes that left over 8 animals in her house with no food and some died and others very sick. The judge in Pike basically gave her nothing in punishment! It is truly sickening!
