I'm assuming the $16.60 fare was the afternoon, correct? It wasn't that in the morning, right? It's the early rush for a holiday weekend. None of this indicates that it costs $25/day for a normal daily commute.

It's all because of the huge traffic backup where the HOTlanes end. It's usually about $10 beltway to Rte 619 and then like $10+ dollars for the seven mile section between rte 619 and rte 610 because they want people to get out of the HOT lanes before the big merge traffic backup. It seems to be pretty effective because I looked at cameras and the merge backup wasn't that long either. You would have to be pretty dumb to pay $15 for 7 miles but I'm sure lots of people do.

I believe it was on Monday afternoon that it was $14.40 from Rt. 123 to Rt. 610.

AFAIC, the volume in the main lanes hasn't lessened but on heavier days (such as this afternoon or when there are accidents), I can jump into the express lanes and be home pretty quickly.

It was $25 EACH for ONE way, not per day. The afternoon trip was $7.50 from Edsall rd to Woodbridge and another $16.50 for the rest of the trip. I don't know what the inbound toll since I don't start at 610. I'm restating what VDOT has stated that $50 per day (roundtrip) is the max limit they can set. Sure it's not often but that amount for a toll is high but perceived as the best solution to control people's driving habits and make money.

Not quite related to 95 HOT lane but I just want to gripe about EZ Pass requirement for 395 HOV. What the h#ll! We work for the Fed and our GSA vehicles don't have/can't have EZ Pass. Last week we were stuck using the regular lanes even though we had 5-6 passengers in our van, leaving DC from a late meeting. What would happen if I drove it on HOV lane anyway?

I'm guessing here but once the software program that processes all those that don't have an EZ pass, a bill would be sent to GSA. After another six months, some email would filter in but if it's unclear who drove the vehicle, there would be no way to collect the toll. Either GSA would pay it and charge the agency who owns it or the ticket would be dropped. I don't know if this system is taking photos of drivers like the red light cameras.

It's hard for me to feel bad for those who have transit options but chose to drive alone. Yeah it costs a lot. If it's that bad, then get on a damn bus.

Sticking with the purpose of highlighting insane toll rates, I never pay the toll. I either HOV (3+) or take the bus. In fact, over a third of the vehicles on the HOT lanes are not paying. Just took the bus again this week to get to Reagan airport. When I drive, I'll circle downtown DC for slugs. I'd pick up one the sign holders in the median (asking for cash) before I'd pay the toll. The amount being calculated for tolls is ridiculous but I don't think anyone on here is seeking pity for their decision to live outside of the immediate DC area.

This afternoon it was fairly cheap to Quantico (something like $4.35 from LakeRidge to Quantico) but $18.10 to get to Stafford. And traffic in the regular lanes was a BREEZE to Woodbridge but something must have been going on past Dumfries because it was about 60 minutes to go 20 miles from Woodbridge to Stafford.

Who said your GSA vehicles can't have an EZ pass? I'm a fleet manager and we have our GSA vehicles using EZ pass; or is it local agency policy?
