had the A/C on yestersday...had to...mostly for the kids sleeping. Today I couldn't resist opening all the windows again in the cool morning. Hoping to stay without A/C as long as possible!

I HATE HATE HATE hot weather. I'm a cold weather/snow person. Plus, I have bad tree allergies and my son has bad pollen allergies, so it's AC for us.

You have my sympathy. My doctor told me pine allergies are going to be especially bad this year because of all the pine trees that fell over or had damage during the blizzard. Everytime someone cuts up a bunch of pine branches it addes a lot of irritants to the air. I have pine allergies myself and I've already had to get a steroid shot because of it. This Sunday I had to put on so much calamine lotion I looked like a pink easter egg.

BTW if you had a pine tree cut up and now have lots of pine chips, do NOT use them as mulch near your house. They make a good mulch around roses, but pine straw and pine chips attract termites so do NOT put it within 2 feet of your house.

That would explain my poor husband's eyes this past week! He's been a mess.

Spring is beautiful, but it sure wreaks havoc on allergies

We ended up turning ours on Monday evening, it was 84° in the house when I got home from work. I felt a little "defeated" starting it up in April, but I think 80° is my cut-off where I break down and turn it on. It gets too sticky and humid in the house otherwise.

Mine turns itself on within a certain temperature range, be it heat or A/C, so who am I to argue? If the sensor in the thermostat decides that it's time, then I go along with it, because I cannot sleep if the interior is too hot. Plus, with my allergies, I only seem to let more allergens in, though it is nice to have cool breeze on a not so hot day.

ok someone maybe can help me with my central air question I have a new house, with not the most efficient system ever, but I certainly thought that the A/C would reach the top floor (2nd floor but we have a finished basement)...but it's coming out in barely a trickle. It's lukewarm instead of hot up there and frankly the top floor is the only reason I want A/C! So...is there something anyone can suggest that I may be doing wrong? I have closed the vents in the basement and most of them on the first floor, where the air is coming out quite strong, but still no noticable difference upstairs. I have never had central air so this is new to me...help!

I'm not a big fan of AC - give me cross ventilation and fans any day. I was mostly able to get by that way in College Park, since I lived in a very old building constructed before AC existed (i.e., with nice big windows in every room, ceiling fans, etc.). Now, though, I'm in a highrise with west-facing windows.. ugh. I've had my AC on for weeks now.
